Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
After googling your computer ( I assume you bought this E-380 machine prebuilt) It will require flashing a modded bios, and it's not for the faint of heart as you will also have to remove a bios jumper on your board that locks the bios from being flashed, I would register and talk in this place
Acer Aspire E380 R01-B4 - Printable Version It seems like since it's a prebuilt computer the options for overclocking/etc are missing Your problem is that the IMC on the 4400 does not intelligently downclock it, and the bios needs to have that setting enabled to tell that chip upon initialization HEY SLOW DOWN YO. It seems the bios in this thread they discuss will do that. I would follow up there, or, attempt calling Acer support to see if they have a bios fix for this, Which are the only 2 options I can see, clearly the options aren't there. Please read up on flashing bioses, etc. As Nobody is responsible but you, when you flash the bios etc. (No power issues, Ram issues, etc.) And by ram Issues I mean faulty ram. |

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
That's strange, I already patched the BIOS from Acer. I had to disable the bootblock protect and run it.
Whats this about a bios jumper? Wouldn't I be told that there was an error if I was jumper blocked? "I had an e380, and successfully overclocked using nVidias ntune program"- From another site So if I can unlock overclock I should be able to run downclock? I mean if I'm correct this should be the solution to my problem. Note: I'm guessing overclock underclock has to do with the CPU's I had no idea what either were ...5 minutes ago I was thinking LED lights and NoS resulting in exploding computers >.> Last edited by Sknives; Nov 27, 2009 at 11:32 PM. |

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
Yes, you should be able to downclock.
If it didn't give you an error, then your jumper is set to allow bios flashing. the problem with that software tool is it's not going to help you when starting up with 4 sticks of ram. You need to set that option in the bios |

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
Is there such a thing as over flashing like burning a CD too many times? I couldn't find anything that said IMC anywhere either.
I followed that link SeraphicSorcerer, and I found a flash and patched it so now I have a lot more things in the menu. There is much more than what was typed below but this seemed to be the closest to what your talking about. Advanced Chipset -- DRAM Config -- Timing Mode Memory Clock Value or Limi SPD Checksum Restart DQS Training Control CKE Base Power Down Mode CKE Base Power Down Memory Tri-Stating Memory Hole Remapping Auto Optimize Bottom IO (Unselectable) Bottom of [31:24] IO Space EO Bottom of UMA DRAM [31:24] 1T/2T ----- Under Advanched Chipset I also found - CPU Frequency 200 K8<->NB HT SPEED K8<->NB HT WIDTH |

Where it says Memory clock value? Instead of SPD you should be able to change it to 166, when you successfully boot up with 166 as your mem speed, you should be able to install all 4 sticks. |

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
Man my thumb is bleeding from all this ram install uninstall -_-
Memory Clock Valu or Limi- Has 4 options DDR 400 DDR 533 DDR 667 DDR 800 - SPD Checksum Restart has 2 options. Ignore/Exit. I just found out my two new ram cards aren't working anymore. Apparently it got static cat'ed and I can't return them anymore

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad sticks. Your original ram is still working?

You've tested them individually ?

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
Yeah I'd test them individually first. Luckily DDR2 is cheap (You are using DDR2 I am assuming)

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
Hi Sknives,
My friend had similar problem with running 4 RAM sticks, but problem was in RAM sticks. Two of them were dual sided memory, another two were single sided memory(it means only one side of RAM modul has chips installed= 128mb X 8chips not 64mb x 8chips by both sides of RAM). The RAM sticks were same brand, same size, same timings, only difference was year of production. So, if this can help you please let us know. Best regards.

Re: Issue Upgrading Ram
I tried exact 4 same sticks didn't work. They weren't similar but they were exactly the same.
$40 Is not cheap to me. That's why I'm doing this instead of buying a new computer :P I have a feeling I'm going to find out the BIOS isn't going to work for me since I got no response on my earlier post? Lol Edit: yeah the old two work... I keep trying to keep the cats out and they know I don't like it but as soon as I step out of the house... |
