Windows 7 Experience Index and Overclocking
Hey guys...
Its been a long time since my last port - didnt have any issues ![]() my issue now is that I installed a new water cooling system and I'm able to push my rig E6750 to 3.75Ghz on 1.45vcore. temps are: idle - 29c - 31c full load CPU at 100% for 5 minutes or more (crysis) - 40 - 43c when my cpu was at 3.2Ghz with old bigwater cooling system i got windows 7 index for the cpu at 6.8 now thats It at 3.75Ghz its still at 6.8 is 6.8 the upper limit score for dual cores??? must I have a quad core to pass this? i have a q9550 at work that puts out an index of 7.2 at 3.2Ghz.. any thoughts???

Re: Windows 7 Experience Index and Overclocking
yes indeed i think more then a dual core is required to compute the necessary amount.
Quad core blows the doors off any dual core provided with any that is able to utilize it.. even if the quad core is much much slower ghz wise.. it's still able to outperform

Re: Windows 7 Experience Index and Overclocking
I would not pay much attention to wei scores but I do notice that it takes my 9650 about 500MHz for each .1 point. For example I score 7.3@3.3GHz and 7.5@4.3GHz...

Re: Windows 7 Experience Index and Overclocking
I think it's only meant to drive hardware sales. If you look at the Share your Windows 7 Experience Index thread, you'll notice that a bunch of people has overall score of 5.9, which is what most of us are getting as our hard drive index. Of course, not all of our drives perform the same, but that's as high as you can get with a mechanical hard drive, and then a user with all other indexes significantly higher than that might think "Wow, this obsolete piece of junk is really bottlenecking my system, I'd better spend a few hundred quid on an SSD."
EDIT: I noticed one user with 6.9 score for the CPU, but, according to his specs, his E3200 is OCed to 4GHz. That's probably the absolute max for a dual core.

Re: Windows 7 Experience Index and Overclocking
If I were to upgrade right now I'd go with an i5, but the catch is you would need to change other hardware for it.
