Didn't really know where to put this find but I have been very curious. It looks to me like there is a phase-change system out there that is not hugely expensive. At least compared to others in its category.

OCZ Cryo-Z Phase Change Single Evaporator CPU Cooling Unit HOT ITEM!!! ( OCZTCRYO ) Sockets (478 / 754 / 775 / 1156* / 1366* / 939 / 940 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 ) - FrozenCPU.com

Anyone heard of the OCZ Cryo-Z and/or know how it performs? For around $380.00US it seems like a pretty sweet deal compared to other phase change systems on the market (not that its a large market but the others i've seen are pretty close to 1k)

Thoughts?

I mean I've heard of this guy being around for some time but never seen one actually for sale anywhere.

Put your money in other stuff. Seriously...

It will not get your CPU to -40 or so if you think that. Maybe just a few degrees below 0 if you're lucky.

Well I wasn't interested in actually buying one...more a curiosity. I've seen some phase change systems in action and they are far too loud and hot for my tastes. Just merely making a comment.

I will be staying with liquid cooling probably forever.

The reason they are so cheap is because the Cyro-Z was just a failure in production. It is very hard to mass produce something like this. A lot of the units were seriously damaged during shipping. OCZ took a huge loss on the units which is why they are so cheap but in very short supply. If i didn't already have phase change setup I would buy this in a heartbeat. This is over half what I paid for mine.

From what I've seen from owners on XtremeSystems they units hold around 0C-10C for load on a quad core, which is pretty decent.

Yeah they are pretty epic and for some of the less wealthy enthusiasts it would be a great option to enter into the sub-ambient sector.

I was very impressed. Too bad OCZ had so many problems it seems like a great piece of hardware based on the reviews etc that i've read.

Also kinda neat that the system prechills and then starts the computer. I'm sure the more expensive ones do something of the sort but its nice to see that these features carry over to a "budget model"

$400 is insanely cheap for a phase change system that can handle a overclocked quad core. Getting someone to build you such a machine is going to generally cost nearly twice that amount.

Yeah and even (I've witnessed it) if you make your own from an old water fountain refrigeration system It would cost you more than that.

just take a look around at the other units that Frozencpu sells. The next cheapest one is in the 800-900 dollar range
