Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

Figured i'd create a new thread voicing some minor quibbles or questions.

I'm finding out that the RV02's 180mm fans are tough to come by and for some, they have failed on them.

And further investigation, shows that these fans just can't be replaced with ease as the 3 fans are actually wired directly into the 2 speed switch, which means that replacing 1 of the 3 means your potentially screwed.

Another is that there have been some complaints about oversized PowerSupplies and the near inability to use them in these cases. Anyone else able to comment on this, considering the corsair 1000HX is a big ass PSU.... well that's about as much i need to say or ask about that.

Top loaded Optical drives some have said have a slight binding issue in terms of there being very little room for them to fit in specially if a card/adapter of some sort is installed near the bottom slots of the boards, but majority stating that there is clearance issues with jumper/headers for various USB/Firewire/Audio connectors forcing one to use center/bottom drive bays instead of the top one.

Just curious...

My orginal order for the raven 02 has been back ordered for nearly 3 weeks now or better and i've just been going over the internet researching it further and finding the little nit picks and issues people have had.

Re: Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

Well, I haven't had any issues with my 2 power supplies, and the strap secures it quite well, If you plan on anything other then an air cooler go with the corsair H50 as the Domino ALC WILL not fit, unless you install it at an angle. which is a minor gripe, the replacing of fans.... I don't know. But you should be able to RMA the fans if they die that badly. Otherwise I normally just go to newegg (which has it on sale for 159.99) So you may want to get it there. my only grip is because of the 90 degree rotation, make sure you install your hd cage first especially on a full size atx board. I was a bit dissapointed I couldnt get it out. but it's been a fantastic case for the minor gripes I have with it.

I don't know what you mean by top loaded, but if you mean top slot, there was plenty of clearence for my DVD burner, and LG 24/x DVDRW drive

Re: Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

ok do you know how much room you've got.

I mean most sata DVD-RW drives even with blu-ray capabilities aren't that long anymore, but i've seen some long bastards that could present issues..

It's hard to go by pictures.... i have to actually handle the product to know what's up.

My Coolermaster V10 has been sent away, but i haven't found out if a V10 will even fit in that case... I mean it should with no issues at all, BUT, it is pretty damn big, big enough that the coolermaster cosmos 1000 makes it "snug"

What, you broke your fans already?

If it's the height or width then yes you will have problems, like probably 98% of cases out there (ok, a lot of the cheap cases have problems with width). If it's the length... holy freaking heck is that a long PSU!!! Accounting for 4" of cables it'd have to be 12" long to start worrying (in more ways than one).

If you mean a top-loading optical drive where the whole top of the drive comes open to insert a disc then yes, you will have problems. If you intend to have such a drive you will have great difficulties finding a case for it. If you have a normal optical drive then no, there are no issues (unless of course you intend to have bulky 5.25" components that stick out by more than 3").
On a more serious note in response to the last question I have an ASUS Maximus Formula, which has all its cables at the bottom (on in the RV02's case the front) of the board and it's practically level with the back of the disc drives. However, the cables would not obstruct anything.

If anything I'd be concerned about motherboards with multiple graphics cards, especially if they have "downwards" facing fans. Dual cards should do fine in the case, as long as the "bottom" one doesn't take up more than 2 slots.

Ps: Seraphic, I found that out the hard way (regarding the HDD cage) but I remembered reading somewhere that you can take the cage out at the front by removing panels. It's just the right size for 3 panels, plus you can push it towards the front of the case for that little extra room after removing the metal panels.

Re: Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

I still haven't figured out how to take the front panels off to slide it out, maybe i'm an idiot. lmao.

Judas, I would say I probably have a good 3 inches of clearance. I have it in the very top spot (the one that needs it screwed in) and that spot is actually blocked by the expansion port area, rather then motherboard but as the sata cables mount it was a pita to get the cables in there. If I find my exact burner, I'll get the specs for you to compare measurements. But I'm pretty sure my optical drive is big :P

As for the coolermaster v10, I do not know but I have seen a friend with a megahelm in there, and he had no problem. Hope that helps

Re: Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

The v10 will fit in it however personally id just ditch it and opt for the H50 corsair unit - its a match made in heaven with that chassis - just need to reverse the fan position for outward (bottom to top) flow.

I have the RV01 and I know both these cases install ex-cards vertically and on this issue I have had none whatsoever.

Re: Silverstone Raven RV02 Concerns/Questions

Yeah my only complaint is some of the mating of the expansion cards my xfi was HARD to install I physically had to force it down. My H50 should come tomorrow ftw.
