My lego case
Basically I just built a case out of lego because my only other case option was a large white tower case, in which my zotac ion took up about 1/6th of the space. yuck. The following few pictures are some of the progress shots if anyone is interested
![]() I have the system running now right beside me but it seems the temperature sensor is broken, its reading 8*C on core 0 and 1 and core 2 and 3 (HT) are 14*C... Anyway, heres the case: ![]() The motherboard sits on top of the PSU resting on those strips of foam ![]() ![]() The harddrive needed to be mounted somewhere on top of the motherboard... ![]() The thin black sticks bend a little but they do the job without resting on the heatsink/fan![]() A bit of support for the HDD Finished product: ignore the zig zaggy colourful patterns on the left side, my sister was bored and lego seemed interesting at the time ![]()

Neat with the airhole pieces.
![]() If you can find one of these old floor pieces it might do well for the top: oh memories

Re: My lego case
The whole thing is currently sitting on one of those, except they don't have the connectors on the bottom so I'm not sure how I could attach it properly.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I don't have a power switch for it, so you can see in the last picture theres an empty case in the background which is being used purely for the switch lol. My dad won't let me take it out

Re: My lego case
Couldn't you take an old lego switch? Remember the electronic legos? and attach each lead to the mobo, or attahc them to a jumper?
![]() http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=8869&cn=233 That would be epic, while you're at it, where's godzilla, star wars and the like eh? |

Re: My lego case
I never got those electronic sets :O
It's ok, I think this mod made my dad realise I need a new case, so they definately come with a PROPER switch lol

That has got to be one of the coolest cases on HH!
I haven't played with legos in ages, but I can imagine myself fighting with my kid over them one day.

Re: My lego case
The dimensions of it are 20cm x 20cm x 17cm (W x D x H)
The sad thing is, it could be about 20 x 20 x 7 if I had something OTHER than a standard ATX psu lol ![]() I also don't know if it's overheating because the temp sensors are broken, so if I don't see my lego melting I'll assume it's fine ![]() As for finishing it off with a lego style switch, it would look good, except I don't know where to buy one and I'm not confident of my electrical skills with the wires

Re: My lego case
when you've got enough blocks you can even make it in cool colors and stuff! Like some kind of drawing with different colored blocks. Just wondering, if you fire it up and it starts getting hot.. will the blocks melt?
and please post more pics!!

Re: My lego case
Yeah, I didn't quite have enough blocks to make a cover for the top so it could be completely hidden as a computer
![]() @comp - the airflow doesn't have to suck, I could swap out one whole side of the rig for a 200mm fan ![]() @neshi - I'm not sure, I'll look up lego blocks' melting point lol I may get some more pics this weekend, but I am mostly busy with school/sport/music during the week. I might redesign it abit too to try and make it even smaller ![]() thanks for the comments guys ![]() edit:: apparently its around 100*C that I would see permanent deformation, so if my case collapses all of a sudden I should be worried :S I think the max temp for the Atom 330 is 85*C, so the case should be fine, but I'm not sure how the CPU will be faring

Re: My lego case
Be assured - for the most part the sides have symmetrical colouring. But I would've preferred a single colour or two instead of random

Re: My lego case
or at least some form f color cordination,
I was always bothered by other children that i played with, and when we worked with lego, how there was never any oraganization or logic to the design of what they would try to create with lego, and how they refused to bother learning it. They'd just place any random colored block wherever and quite often with no form of supporting structure to the design making whatever they were trying to build either impossible or unable to take any abuse at all. Simple things like staggering blocks and working with patterns or logical color designs.. No offence to the poster at all i was just joking about that for the most part, but i have always been confused by the thinking by most.

Re: My lego case
Ran out of blue bricks lol.
The structure for the case for the most part is solid and supported, believe me ![]() I had originally planned to stripe the colours, say 4 lines of blue, then 4 lines of red etc, except it became hard once I needed vents and to account for the motherboard I/O panel.

Re: My lego case
i can see how that would cause a slight issue. Looks awesome dude!
here's something to shoot for if you happen to find/steal some more legos ![]() I just like how the little door is the thing you open to plug it in

Re: My lego case
lol, nice. I actually have one of those doors so that could be possible
![]() maybe when I rebuild it next weekend. In the meantime I've modded it a bit from the original design, so here are some more pics of the new case: I moved the HDD to a vertical position on the side of the case and moved the fans so the air could blow over the mobo more, rather than be blocked immediately by the RAM. ![]() new fan cover (makes it a bit more discreet ):![]() ![]() Ignore the ugly switch please :![]() On the desk:

Re: My lego case
Nice layout changes. If you perfect this, there could be some money in it, LEGO is the ultimate geek material.

Re: My lego case
I went with a lego themed computer too but got it from Dell instead of DIY. The package arrived this morning and i just unboxed it.
I went with a bundled special that includes keyboard, mouse, mousepad and i even got a wireless adaptor... ![]() ...which is great because it will work off a wireless Linksys router i have in another room. ![]() Here it is all setup with the Logitech 5.1s and me (with a hot cup of tea waiting) holding a new steering wheel, also by logitech, i just purchased. ![]() But, before installing the steering wheel, first things first... benching.
