CPU Temps
Yesterday I decided to take a look at my CPU temps because my PC seemed a bit on the warm side. It turned out it was just my graphics cards, which I'd expect to get hot but one thing did puzzle me...
First of all, I opened up SpeedFan, which said that the CPU was running at 59°C, which is a little worrying as an idle temp, even if it is OC'd. So, I popped open ASUS' management tool to check on the Q-fan settings and the temperature there said 26°C, which is a heck of a difference. I don't have a thermometer to manually check the temps but which one is more likely to be accurate and, more importantly, why is there a difference?

Re: CPU Temps
On some systems, I have to run several different temp monitoring programs and I compare to what the BIOS says after a quick reboot..... which ever is closest to BIOS is the one I go with for that system.
I don't think there is one program that is 100% correct for any and all systems.....

Re: CPU Temps
Well, you should believe what BIOS says, if 59°C is temp that some monitoring program says dont wory, that is normal temp for your Q9550.
Best regards.

Re: CPU Temps
I've refused to acknowledge almost EVERY single one of the temp reading programs, i've yet to see one come remotely close EXCEPT for everest, which was always the closests for most cases, but still never 100%.
IF your concerned, Emediately restart and get into the bios and run to the hardware diagnostics screen to check temperatures there, usually they won't drop more then 2 or 3*C at best if you move fast enough. I must say though that AMD's overdrive software has yet to be off at all on anything, it's always been SPOT on... however if they were able to properly access the temps with thier own software it'd be pretty sad lol.

Re: CPU Temps
They can drop a lot in just a few seconds after going idle from load, unless the fan stops moving or slows down somewhat. But then again you are just measuring idle temperatures.

Re: CPU Temps
SpeenFan can be manipulated to show a temperature reading with a delta value on top of the sensor reading. Also who knows if the right sensor is configurated as the reading probe.
Also if you used SpeenFan to play around with the fan speeds and selected low values... it could be understandable.

Re: CPU Temps
I don't understand that there isn't a program out there that is able to 'check' into the Bios while in windows.. that way you'd have the bios readings always, which is the most accurate..

Re: CPU Temps
Apparently, the ASUS AI Suite was accurate. Pretty handy to know and pretty decent temperature!

Re: CPU Temps
Yes everest is the most accurate but run Core temp and you will start to doubt his readings ... On my q6600 in everest i have max 65 in full load and in CT shows 75/80
Ehh i wish i had cpu with lower VID ...

Re: CPU Temps
I like the Asus AI setup. It has always read just what was in the BIOS. HWMonitor was another good one although if I overclocked my system I had to load it two or three times before it would populate all of the temperatures.

Re: CPU Temps
This is goodnews because I'm getting the same idle temp readings (59-62c) from SpeedFan on my OC'd i7-920. I'll have to see if I can check the reading with Everest or HWMonitor.
