Overclocking my i7 930

Started off at a humble 3.15GHz, using 1.3vcore and 1.23QPI/DRAM to be safe (apparently these voltages are 100% stable at 4.2GHz) so I'm looking to make the jump to 4GHz and get a 24/7 system up and running. Who knows, I might even enable HT

Heres my temps so far:

That's with a Megahalems Push/Pull with Scythe 1600rpm Slipstream and the Xigmatek fan (pulling) that came with my retired Achilles cooler. I'm pretty happy with those temps

Anyway, will post more with my higher clocks

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

Here we are at 4.00GHz. First time I've ever been here
Temps went up 5-7degrees somehow, despite no voltage change but I'm still happy, they're well within limits.
Here's some proof:

I'll be back tomorrow

Any joy with Hyperthreading?

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

I'm going to try a 200 x 20 first, just so I can get a flat 4.00... then I'll try HT, then I'll fiddle with voltages

Have you tried OC'ing yours?

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

Ok...so apparently my chip doesn't like a BCLK of 200.... could not get it stable with up to 1.34vcore and 1.25QPI/DRAM so I decided to just let it be stubborn and I will probably run at 4.001GHz (191 x 21). Next test will be for HT and then lower voltages.

I did, however, manage to boot into Windows at 4.2GHz, but I was quickly greeted with a system error saying my computer would restart automatically in 1 minute... I got proof though:

Just too bad BCLK 200 sucks

Maybe after some time but for now I'm content with stock speeds. Do you mind sharing your BIOS settings?

Looks impressive so far; I'm intrigued to see what you get with HT.

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

Ah of course...I totally forgot. I'm so far stable at 4.0 /w HT but the cpu voltage is not pretty, even though the temps don't seem to be as bad as I would have thought:

I know there is a way to export the settings automatically, but I haven't yet found it... I'll do a bit of searching and if I can't just post them manually.

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

Much appreciated - I'll use that as reference if & when I get round to oc'ing.
How would the performance fare if you compared the 4GHz without HT to a lesser overclock with HT?

Re: Overclocking my i7 930

I read in another forum that having 4GHz with HT would be better than 4.2GHz without HT, but it probably would depend on the application you're using. There's probably some comparisons around

Its really very simple. Hopefully you've got a better chip than me and you should be able to hit (at least 4) with ~1.29volts
