Can I overclock a Pentium 3 processor?

Hello! I have an old Pentium 3 computer. You can find it's specs
here: HotShare - Viewing Specs.JPG

My question is can I overclock it upto 1 Ghz without investing on cooling or I need some cooling devices to
overclock it. Will it reduce it's life also?

Re: Can I overclock a Pentium 3 processor?

P3 weren't exactly good at the cooling spec..

and it's a bit of a stretch to 1ghz...

200mhz increase is still a 25% overclock which is pretty big even for todays cpus in some respects...

I'd say it remotely possible.... but i think your motherboard is going to be possibly the hugest issue to get around..

Considering the age.... although it's indeed a coppermine...... i guess best place to start is turn on the Temperature warning (set it to say 60*C to start) if it has it.... and set your memory speed to a notch lower.. losen the timings.. and if you can... lock your PCI BUS so that you can start bumping up the FSB 5 mhz at a time until you either crash or set of the warning bells...
