would this work?
i had an idea to make a case out of a bunch of 120 mm fan grills... thought that that'd look awesome. Do you think that a would be able to make a strong case out of that?

I know what your goal is, and its not feasable while still looking like its supposed to. In theory you should be able to make a side panel out of fan grills because it doesn't carry any weight. You will have to modify the case and grills on the edegs so that it can be attached, but it will look how you want it to. (I think that the fan grill case would look ugly though)

You could always make a case skeleton out of welded rods and then weld the fan grills to that...shoudl provide the rigidity and strength you need but still give you all the effect!!
