new 9800 pro... how high will she go??

welcome to shuki's tours! today we're gonna take a trip down OC lane. On the agenda is sapphires 128mb 9800 pro OEM card from newegg.com. Other ingredients in todays mix are an xp2100 @ 2.3Ghz (200x11.5), a version 1.2 Nf7-s and 2x256 pc3500 hyperX. gonna upload some pics in just a few mins and we'll see just how far we can go

up to here so far.... seems my mem is topped at 365. next step up to 371 begins artifacts in nature

May have a bit more in this one yet but really anxious for mr. 512 cache barton 2500 to get here next week

Keep on going Shuki.......you can get more out of it!!!

Mine topped out at 19,022 last night.....using the 200fsb as a max w/12x setting......got the card to 455/360...it is a stock built by ATI 9800 Pro 128.

ram is pc3500 hyperx and timings up to 209 were 2-2-2-5

roadee my cpu is an xp2100 tbred b. she's maxed out at 2.3 Ghz.

card will do more on core but mem is topped at 365. dunno if burn in will take me any higher or not.

barton 2500 will be here in about 10 days or so at which time I WILL break 20k! .... or burn out trying

edit - though these are all with omega 3.5's. not sure but the official may bump me up a bit...

I wish my 9800PRO would go that high for the core.

I can reach 385mem though.

Very nice scores there shuki!!!!

Started ramping mine up ... but the core couldnt take much more... I will be replacing the cooler with a copper northbridge cooler, and using a 70mm YS Tech TMD fan to cool it.

Then with some trimmers, I am going to eek the voltage up just a hair... get the memory to 400MHz, and the core to 500MHz

Boot the PC @ 2.5GHz and give it one end all be all run ... do the best that I can with it... shut it down, let it cool off...

remove the voltage mods, and reboot at 2.3GHz

I am only going to do this ONCE.. I do NOT want what happened to my 9500 to happen to this 9800.

Nice overclocks but I think for the amount of heated generated compared to the speed gain then overclocking a 9800pro just isnt worth it. a higher FSB and faster CPU seems the best bet at the moment.

heat means almost nothing to me... my case temps are at ambient temperatures... meaning 28 - 30 degrees celcius... As long as your case has plenty of cool air coming in, and plenty of hot air getting evacuated... there are no worries.

stock cooling on the Radeon 9800 Pro... the bottom of the stock HSF was lapped, and the stock goop was replaced with Arctic Ceramique' good quality low capacitance thermal interface material.

the CPU is cooled with a Thermalright SLK-800 w/ a Delta 80x80x38mm fan ... running on 7 volts.

The ATI reference board I received can hit 460 core and 400 memory with stock cooling. I dont push it that hard because really I dont need to run 24/7 with a bench of over 21k
