I have been trying to unlock my XP 1700+ for some days now it's impossible nothing happens. I have looked at various sites how to do it tho i already knew but i looked anyway. I also bought that AMD XP Unlocking kit from highspeed PC (overpriced kit btw). By now i can fill thoose gaps and cross the bridges with my eyes closed and still have a perfect visual result but it never works !!
What i do is: 1. clean etc etc... 2. fill gaps with gap filler 3. carefully clean dots if any gapfiller acidently was placed there. 4. cross the bridges one by one, i'm not dipping the needle to deep so it mixes with gapfiller. 5. Look with magnifier to see another visually perfect result. Definite contact between the dots (over the gap). And none of the crossings cross with each other and no conductive grease is on any of the grounds (L1 symbol, large dots etc) like this | | | | | 6. Look for stray material 7. install, boot, see that it didnt work, throw something out the window (3rd floor), start over. Am I missing something?? I have done this at least 15-20 times using diffrent methods and accessories but it never works. Someone PLEASE HELP! EDIT: Messured with a multi-meter and the connection between the bridges was perfect, there has to be some other factor making it un unlockable. |

if the multi meter says it is right (and you'r using the meter right
) then it is unlocked and the problem must be elsewhere. Did you clear the CMOS on your mobo? can you put another cpu in that mobo and get it to boot?

Yes i tried with my friends CPU (1600+) in my mobo
Trying to unlock mine about 15 times and never get it right makes me wonder if mine is special or if i busted something during the first attempts or something like that.... Or is there other ways to unlock or maybe set a static multiplyer at something else then default by crossing some other bridges. EDIT: I messured a 20 Ohm resistance in the conductive grease could that be it? Personally i dont think it's too much but it might be a possibility. |

I spent 2 hours unlocking my daughters Duron only to put it on the board and realize that her Mobo had no option of setting the Multiplier. Board simply didn't know what to do with it...lol. Tested it in mine and the thing worked perfect, put it back in hers and No joy. Had to clean the crap off and put it back in. I did see a thread posted here somewhere though about which bridges to close for which multipliers.
Good luck |

I just unlocked my first cpu this week. xp1600. took me two tries. first time no multipliers. second time, I could lower but not raise. then just about that time my abit kx7 mobo arrived. popped that baby in there and had all multiplier options up and down. crappy asus board almost had me cleaning the xp1600 and starting again
