Default Post Athlon XP 1800 VS Pentium 4 2.26 - Benchmarks

Hey Everyone,

I recently upgraded from an AMD Athlon XP to a Pentium 4. The only thing that is difference in the systems is:

1. Processor (DUH)
2. Motherboard
3. Ram
4. Video Card

Here is a link to a picture of the benchmarks, tell me what you think.

Athlon XP 1800 VS Pentium 4 2.26

The only thing that is overclocked on both rigs is the Athlon XP @ 1.61GHz.

Necrosis, your results were, in a word, whack.

Which is not to say that I don't believe that these tests were legitimate. I think the Athlon fares favorably against the 2.26GHz P4. But just look at that 3D score, though -- there's something quite bizarre about that! A GF3Ti500 beating a GF4T4600??

I don't know how to explain it either. Matter of fact JavaFox when I first installed the system; and had not formated/reloaded windows. I was scoring around 850 in the raw 3D test. That was with the Geforce 3 Ti 500 in the system. I managed to get to get close with to the Athlon scores after I reloaded XP, and installed the Geforce 4.

1. Could it be the SIS Chipset sucks? Games seem quicker, and at least in 3DMark2000 it scores quite a bit higher.

2. This benchmark doesn't recognize the SSE2 instructions of my P4, maybe because it does a test just for these type of instructions sets later in the test their not intialized in the 3D test. However, isn't the Nvidia drivers supposed to also take advantage of these too?

3. If so, why does the Athlon score so well? Honestly I've scored over 1200 (raw 3D) with the Geforce 3 before with the Athlon system.

4. Here in about a week I will be upgrading my friend's system using my old motherboard and processor. My friend has a Geforce 3 Ti 200, and the same IDE controller and similar drives. I will benchmark his system and see how it compares. However, I'm also building another system based on the SIS 735 chipset for a friend without a computer. I'm selling my Geforce 3 to this friend; I will benchmark this system as well and see what he scores. He will also be buying an Athlon XP 1800 for his computer.

Maybe then we will know the answer to the mystery?

Mebe you had AF enabled and we all know a G4 takes a bigger plunge than a G3 with AF.

For those of you who only use AMD, that's "2.3GHz"

That test IS very fishy...why?

Because the HDD's were suppost to be the same yet the amd scored about 20% lower.

a huge portion of the total score comes from disk performance so................................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...

btw
I scored ~250 dispite the fact that I outscored you 5-10% in every test except disk where I was like 30-50% slower.
