p3 450mhz (dell dimension xps t450)

is there any way i could OC my 450mhz dell w/ little money usage as possible to maybe a 500-700mhz area? could some1 list/link to what i'd have to do or purchase? i might just buy a new mobo and amd (around 1ghz to 1.5ghz, seeing as it is my 3rd computer which is gaming only for my lan) what would be a better idea??

I don't think you can overclock Dell's, there motherboards don't support it.

Yes... well... its a lot more than just the motherboard but yes.

If you are running a 450 PIII, that means its a Katmai core... That in turn means that it can't be unlcocked (without resoldering all the resistors on the cpu board)... and if you have a 450... then i'm pretty sure that dell did not supply you with a 133 capable board. That would have been the only _easy_ way of Oc'ing your cpu.

So yes, there is no way to OC your cpu.

So you dont htink that he could use a program like CPU cool to rasie the FSB by the PLL through his computer to gain some o/c?

I've tried progs like softFSB for the purpose, however, when it comes to dell motherboards... i haven't been able to identify the clock generator... and i can't seem to overclock it.

Its definitely feasible and probably a lot easier than any other method... but it would still require quite the bit of effort.

I have mixed feelings about those sorts of progs (softFSB etc.) :/

I have an Optiplex GX1 that flashing the BIOS allowed me to use a faster processor from a 450 up to a 700, but the bios flash won't OC the existing processor. I had to use a specific version of the flash too ... A7, newer ones won't allow the processor change. With the 700 PIII and 768 of ram it's quite capable for my usage which is recording guitar...... I use my big boy for mixing and editing tho'.....

I don't know if that option is available for yours... If so it's a cheap upgrade. I got a PIII 700mhz for about $5...... the bios flash was free from Dell's site ..... nice upgrade for 5 bucks.
