SoftFSB is the program you're referring to - never used it myself. Do you have the ability to change any settings in your BIOS? The most common way to overclock a P3 is to increase the FSB via the BIOS. Most of the P3s I overclocked could handle a 10 MHz FSB increase. Note that you probably have a 100 MHz FSB (could be 133 MHz) so if you find this in your BIOS step it up slowly and check your temperatures to make sure you aren't going to fry anything. If you have a noname motherboard you may not be able to overclock and may not have any temperature sensing hardware (in this case it'd be worth shelling out $50 or so for an ABIT BE6-II (rev 1.2) motherboard.

Default Post Try this

Well you could in the documents you got with it! Who bulit the system if it's a brand name what is it and what model number? At the last restort crack the case open and look on the MoBo to see the vendor!

No its a 450... no chance of 133. Also if its a 450 PIII its a katmai core... that means that the cache is running at half speed of the processor and that the processor is quite throughly locked.

As for identifying the name/brand of the motherboard... well quite frankly i have found that the motherboards used by Gateway (for intance) at the time came from a company called Jabill. Now if this company exists and if it publishes its mobo specs i'm not sure. But i certainly as hell haven't been able to find anything.

I have tried using softFSB on the afor mentioned Gateway PIII 500 Katmai, with no result. I've tried using practically all the available clockchip generators... and it's had 0 effect on the CPU FSB/Speed.

IMHO if you can't find a frequency adjustment in the BIOS (FSB Adjustment that is)... you will not be able to OC your CPU. (Pessimistic? Yes...SRY)

Oh, and as i've mentioned the Katmai cores have external cache (512k). This effectively limits how far the CPU will overclock. (e.g. not very much oc'ing potential)

450 = 4.5x100 ... i'm not sure how you can "overclock" the cpu to something it is already at

IC... NM I thought we were still talking about the 450 in question.
