Default Post ramsinks worth it?

Are ramsinsk for your video card or system ram worth the effort and money?
Any replies on the topic would be helpful. I'm considering getting active cooling for my System DDR, wondering what, if any increase in performance I might get. As for the Radeon how much higher could my card go with ramsinks I'm at 295 for mem so I'm not sure If I need them.

any thoughts on the matter are welcome.

Default Post dunno?

I have the passive cooling for System Ram... just blue heat spreders from ThermalTake... I wouldnt know if they had any effect because I never measured the temps. But i've read they can take it down 10-20% so i guess its worth it. I want to get active cooling because it looks cool with those little fans hooked on the ram. How do you make more power wires availible in the computer....

No. Heatsinks for your system RAM are stupid and overrated.

Have you ever felt a HOT stick of RAM? As we speak (type?), my RAM is running .6V over spec. It is not hot.

It boils down to this: SDRAM does not heat up in localized areas -- it distributes heat evenly amongst its chips.

Now, as far as your video card goes, yes, RAMsinks may help; most people seem to claim pretty decent gains.

Default Post No.

No it is not worth it. For either Video Memory or System Memory. I thought it would give a significant increase, but I'm reaching 9-10 Mhz more for memory. I can get that same amount by placing a fan beside my case. So unless you want to volt mod...then yes.

My system RAM (@ 2.8v/185 MHz) gets warm, but not hot.

My R8500's ram got really really hot and I couldn't push it past 295 MHz without getting artifacts until I put ramsinks on. It'll do 325 MHz now. Go figure. I think it depends upon whether the darn stuff is getting hot or not. Some folks with hynix 3.3 chips haven't seen heat and the newer BGA stuff is supposed to run quite cool. My original retail had 3.6 (or is it 3.8 ns?) chips and they definitely ran very hot.

My RAM is running at 3.1V.

The reason RAMsinks are effective on video RAM is simply because that RAM has a high clockspeed and does get hot.

Try Tweakmonster. You can buy their stuff (or at least I did a while back) at Sidewinder Computers.

I like the deal for 45 US, but I can get the same for 46 CDN, it would be the Tt Kit, the Copper orb, and some Artic Alumina Adhesive, since I have AS3. The disadvantages to mine would be using the hack saw on the heatsinks, and it would be aluminum, but I think I could live with it since I get an extra Passive RAMSink for the PC2700 ram I'm ordering.

U guys think is best or the Geforce 4 kit any better?

Thanks
