GUIDE on how to unlock your ATHLON XP

well i showed you how to do the t-bred and some asked how do you do it on the XP's

here ya go:::

1: Get a yellow wax crayon, yellow shows up best!

2: Rub the crayon over the L1 pits! make sure they are fully filled, it does not matter if the crayon covers the dots!

3: Take a rough(ish) rubber, and rub it over the dots, this clean's the wax off of them! Then check the pits are still filled, if so continue to step 4, if not go back to step 2 and do it again! You do not have to rub hard to clean the dots, just make sure they are shiny!

4: Then take a conductive pen (these don't seem to work as well) or a rear-window defroster kit (the conductive paint bit, mine was silver, but i have heard that it can be brown too). Get a fine paintbrush (what i used!) and dip it in the conductive paint (shake it first for 30seconds!), then very slowy draw a line across each bridge, this is easier than it sounds, just take your time and all will be good!

5: Check to see if you have crossed any bridges, if you have you will need to clean it off, and start again (that bridge), do this until the bridges are fine and look some thing like this:

6: Leave the paint to dry, it shouldn't take more than 5minutes, under a minute is more realistic though!

7: You can mask the over the L1 bridges now to stop the paint being rubbed off! A bit of scotch tape will work just fine! I didn't mask them over, and instead was just carefull with my fingers when installing the XP again!

I don't think i missed anything! Tell me if i have! This whole process took me 10minutes and gave me full multiplyer control!

- sounds fun... the crayon bit should be pretty easy. Whatever happened to using pencils? I mean "theoretically" does it provide the (conductivity/resistance)

needed? (not too savvy about that myself). :/

pencils don't have enough conductivity..sorry thats out but man this is the easiest way i could think of

IC... well i was just remembering my Tbird days... Also what about sodder? (this should probably work) --- (I know how hard it is to place something that small but i was still wondering if it would do). --- Trying to save myself the expense of getting a defogger kit. :/

my XP 1700 is a total ass, it wont unlock.... i posted at a overclockers forum and i got a reply that the 1700+ was a bitch sometimes.... he had to solder the bridges to get it to work. Gonna do that soon but im trying this first. (i had a highspeedpc unlock it, and it sucked).

EDIT: Unlocking with Highspeed PC unlocking kit never worked for me redid it a 100 times, then i bougt som clear nailpolish and conductive silver paint (that hardens) and suceeded on the first try. Painted the gaps with the nailpolish then took a knife to flaten it, used a needle and dipped it in the silver paint and crossed the bridges.

I used super glue and a defogger kit. I used tape to mask off the entire area except for the "pits" between the bridges. After I made sure the tape was full seated and masking off the entire area, I put super glue a drop at a time in until all the "pits" were closed. VERY IMPORTANT to make sure the glue DOES NOT run UNDER the tape or you got a real mess! Just ask my friend Rick if you don't believe me...lol. After that, I just took an old model paint brush and cut of all but 2 small bristles and painted the bridges closed. I have a lighted magnifying glass so this is pretty easy, but I have done one without it as well and it was pretty easy. Worked like a champ so it was off to lowering that multiplier and pumping that bus.

does anyone know of any alternatives to the defogger kit and conductive pen? I don't have either of those and I want to unlock. I can't just go and buy a defogger kit or conductive pen because I don't have a credit card and I'm not old enough to drive and I don't really have any money

having 2 thoughts on this:
1. does the wax create a stable enough surface to paint on?
2. and at what temp will crayola wax melt? I know wax can melt pretty quickly not by direct heat but just by warmth.

dunno if I wanna try this or not yet.. hmm.
