Default Post ddr and high fsb...

OK some of you extreme OCers help me out here. I have read several posts on several boards and hope to get conclusion here. What is available on the market today in the form of ddr memory that will run a stable 200fsb? any experience welcome....

I'll start with my own samsung DLT pc2700 experience. Ordered from newegg and it did 170 out of the box with all mem timings set to most aggressive. In order to run 3dmark at 175 I had to put dividers to 5:2:1 and then made it up to 186 with a 10,452. After that, no 3dmark at all and at 190 windows became unstable.

now looking at which memory to try next that will carry me the extra mile and give me a stable 200+ fsb.

also, cut and pasted from amdmb.com with killerklown's permission. This is his experience so far...

"Tryied 8 different Samsung Original DTL sticks and all of them wouldnt do anything over 175 FSB max settings... Really only 2 out of the 8 would do 175.. most would only do 170 max settings at 1.85 volts.

i've tryied a stick of Mushkin 2100 high Perf Level 2 cas2 2-2-2 512MB and that sucked... Wasnt stable at 166 max settings. Mushkin told me that stick was my best bet for 200FSB love... Guess not anymore.

Exchanged that for 2 sticks of PC3000 Mushkin 256MB and they didnt do any better then the Samsung DTL... hehe cuase those sticks have Samsung DTL chips.. So.. Sent those back with the 2100 stick.

Now i'm waitin for my Corsiar CMX PC3200 512MB x 2 sticks from http://www.newegg.com. Exchanged those from the 4 sticks of Samsung DTL. Should have those soon like on Tuesday night. Expansive... But i hope the search is over and done... Too many sticks and too much money tied up in RMA's to do anything for the past 2 months it seems.

If that dont work out which i'm sure it will... i'll try out some eXtremeDDR 3200 512 like i was long ago hehe.. The admin over at http://www.overclockers.com in the memory forum said he just got a stick of eXtremeDDR 3200 from one of the advertisers on there site. He's testing them out right now... No word on anything other then it does have Samsung CTL chips."

I recommend the KingMax DDR 400. It is made of BGA memory and it is TRUE ddr400 (unlike other "overclocked" ram being sold )

I read a review on it and it got very good ratings and was easily changed to CAS2 and everything. I don't remember where it was though (the review)

Default Post pc2700 and on up...

suggest that most "guaranteed" pc2700 and higher using either the samsung -c-tcb3 modules or the new windbond modules...
...can only vouch for the m3683223ctl-cb3 with k4h560838c-tcb3 modules good to 216 at most aggressive timings on pox-e 8k3a and 208 on the abits for me...
- and tired of the rumors of "great" ddr...have plenty of slow pc2700 in the drawer from many sources...

know you didn't ask, but here difference between the sammy -ctl-cb3 and the -dtl-cb3...
said out here the c = cool and the d = dirt
samsung -ctl vs -dtl...the difference...?
-DTL spec sheet...
http://www.samsungusa.com/download/s...68l3223dtl.pdf

-CTL spec sheet...
http://www.samsungusa.com/download/s...68l3223ctl.pdf

jedec info here...for idd spec page 61
http://www.jedec.org/download/search/JESD79R1.pdf

pleased to check module IDD on page 6 of the samsung specifications...will find that IDD specs for -DTL more close to -CTL A2 & B0 266 at cl = 2 than 333 at cl = 2.5...

...seems as if the -DTL like a bit less operating current...
- also please not to reproduce jedec specifications without permission...

if the module is samsung, guess i would call and verify the part number before purchase...

I with kat on this one, the Samsung CTLs are absolutely awesome. But they aren't right out of the box, they require LOTS of burn-in.

Heh - many CTL Samsung do require burn-in - but

ask kat about some of his "hurry-up" jobs where a new stick of CTL went to 200 or higher in less than a day

Very nice My KG7-RAID didn't warm up to the CTL until I slowly jacked up the speed and voltage. Of course since I don't have a 1/5 PCI divider I can go for the 200+ FSBs you guys can, but 166mhz at max timings at 2.5V is just fine for me

The highest divider available on the kr7a is 4:2:1 - so the PCI bus is at 50 and the AGP at 100 when running 200FSB. You just need the "right" components that tolerate the high clock...

you should still hit @ 170ish at first and maybe all the way up to 185ish after a bit of burn in.
