9800 cut resistor.. help!!!
Today I decided to lap my Zalman ZM-NB47J which I had put on my 9800np after doin a couple lapping jobs & gettin it down pat. So all goes well with the lapping. btw, I think the zalman looks sweet with a silver base Anyway I decided to take the shim off my 9800 with a razor blade which I had done b4 ok with my 9500np(gained 10 mhz on oc & nice surface contact without shim) So as I on my last side of the shim, I press a little to much and slice off a little resistor in the corner. It was one of the tiny ones by the core. So I continue on as I feel there is nothin I could do to put it back on. So I boot up ok , try out warcraft 3, played for 2 hours.. no problems. I then ran 3d2003 & 3d2001 which showed no artifacting or weird textures. After I try to play ut2003 & get the error (General protection fault! History: MainLoop) & closes out. I then try to run the ut2003 benchmark which benches ok with no problems. I am curious as to why the benchmark would work but the game doesnt? Also I would like to know what the little resistors are for? I would like to try more games to see if there is any problems with them. If anyone has done this b4 & can post your experience or can offer some insight.. thx for your help

Acctually when I was testing with my multimeter they have 0 resistance, meaning they are used as bridges. Basicly all they do is determine what features to enable/disable on your card and it allows ATI to bin them.
Take a conductive pen and run it over the resistor spot a few times to make sure it has a good connection and you should be fine. |
