Default Post How to make your own Athlon Heat spreader (56 warning)

Just ran into this article about making a heat spreader for the HOT Athlon processors a la Intel.

It's pretty damn cool so I had to share it with y'all.

Results

3°C to 5°C improvement under full load using the modified CPU with heatspreader. These results are still acceptable using my aging Kanie Hedgehog 238 with a C/W of 0.41 equipped with a low speed 80mm cooling fan. It's safe to say that this project was a success. Not only does it look very cool, but it also lowers temperatures by a few degrees. Also, the core is protected from being damaged by the spreader.

This project was relatively simple and inexpensive. I recommend this project to anyone advantageous enough to try it. Of course, neither Icrontic or myself can be held accountable if you break your processor doing it.

Would this be less effective with an anodized aluminum shim?
