AN7 Died

Well an interesting day...... as some of you know ive been running an AN7 successfully at 240-245fsb for quite a while - today I got home to try some Corsair XMS 3700 ram. Hit post - started fine. tested ram. took it out, put back in the OCZ4200. hit power up. no post. no boot, nothing. checked error message, some weird ass "AF2 error message. so went down the usual root of, clearing CMOS. turning off power etc etc. no luck. put in old ram. no luck. tried some kingston DDR2700. DEAD.

luckily I still have my NF7s, so after a 30 minute changeover. hey presto. boots fine - the AN7 is dead, looks like the BIOS is buggered.

so after my initial love for this board and the high FSBs I have to say its really quite unreliable (I occasionally got post errors before with reset bios for no reason - which was a warning sign), and certainly going on the other threads ive read on other forums, dont purchase. Stick with the NF7s Rev 2.

time for an RMA methinks.

RIV@NVX will become famous soon enough

Are you sure you didn't somehow destroy it phisically when changing RAM? Electricity maybe?

Dunno, it seems kinda weird to me to see board dieing for no reason.

yes ive been doing this for many years, as I said - there were warning signs beforehand. its a pity because I know if they sorted this board out it would be an awesome performer. perhaps like the Nf7s you will see a rev2 soon with stability issues resolved.

check out some of the threads on the abit forums with the problems. its not an isolate event - mores the pity

Time for an RMA..... have fun. Good luck.

Edit: Let me expand on my fun with Abit today. I was told 3 weeks ago I would get a different board due to my problems with my current board. I was told I would get an e-mail with my options for board upgrade. I never received the e-mail. I called today, got some woman who talked 10 times too fast and with very poor English. She tells me I can not get an upgrade, i ask for supervisor, she says he is not there. I then get an e-mail telling me my board is now out of warranty (this is a board I received via RMA in the first place) and it will cost me 25 dollars for repair (not counting shipping costs). A supervisor actually calls me back and tell me the same thing and that I can not get a newer board. Now this little episode doesn't include the multiple E-mails and other phone calls I've made about this without response or being told I would get a response and never did. Their support doesn't live up to their product quality at all.

I was using my work email but decided to give my DH email and it didn't faze them at all. I hope your experience with them is much better than mine. I've never ever had such horrible service. DirectTV customer service is a close second.

Man that suxs, hope you're still under warranty But if it makes you feel any better I've had good luck with Abit's RMA service. Used it twice and both times my replacement was at my door within a week.
Good luck
