Slk 900 (a)

I just want to say this, becuase I feel it is appropriate.

THis cooler ROCKS! I dropped my idle temp from 42deg to 33deg, going from stock cooler to SLK 900A. Im only pushing 35CFM with a silenx 92mm fan, but I just want to say...it was WELL worth my $31. Easy to install, and great cooling!

I've got a SLK-800A. That is the 3 hole clip version. This is a great piece of heatsink and is a rock solid product. Even with a silent fan at 2500 rpm my overclocked 2500+ @ 3200+ keeps itself at 38-47 degrees celsius, idle and full-load.

I dont think the SLk900 fits on that board but check out the new 947U it should fit ok.

As for fans. ive a 92 mm Ystech 2500rpm 50cfm on my SLk900, only 30db. getting one of these heatsinks means you can use larger 92mm fans, a massive bonus for noise and CFM.

Sometimes I wonder if my temps are normal. I would be sleeping a bit easier if someone would tell if this is the "normal" temps.

CPU Idle: 40 c
Case Idle: 27c

CPU Fullload: 46 c
Case Fullload: 29 c

CPU fan @ ~2600 rpm all the time with a ThermalRight SLK-800A heatsink with Arctic Silver 5 applied.
And also 4 Papst 12db ~1500rpm casefans. Two in front and two in the back. All being mounted inside a Chieftec Dragon chassi.

Well I've not lapped the heatsink. After I pulled of that protector film, alot of glue were stil on the heatsink. I tried to get it away with alcohol but some of it were already in the microscopic valleys.
So I guess I just have to lap the heatsink before I get the best performance out of it.
And also I'm using a quite slow fan, which on the other hand is almost unhearable. But if the temps seems okey, I shouln't be worried then.

your temps are fine, you are using a 2600 rpm fan (I dont like noise either). rest easy.

hehe okej. Well since it's quite cold up here in Sweden there's about 5 degrees celcius here now. But in the summer it gets really hot in the computer room. But if the CPU would hit around 55 degrees celcius at full-load, is that okay??

That seems normal, however, I dont like anything about 50 C w\ my 2600+. I splurged and spent $15 on a 92mm Silenx fan....it pushes 35CFM, but it really is SILENT! With a higher CFM fan, I could certainly get my temps lower, but Im well within my safe zone. My idle temps are CPU:39 MoBo: 29 and Full load are CPU 46 Mobo: 32.

for a while I ran my barton at 2 core volts with an SLK900 and a YSTECH 92mm 2500rpm (50 cfm fan) at over 2.55ghz temps almost 60c it was fine. not that id recommend it 24/7 though !

My SLK-900(A) and SmartFan II is a pretty good combo, I have a Vantec Tornado 80mm laying around but when I had it installed it was louder than the SmartFanII @ the same speed (3800RPM). Keeps my CPU pretty cool, but not cool enough... it needs a good lapping.

SP-97

has anyone tried that one out ? I read a few reviews, and it seems to beat SLK-900's pretty easy. It is off course more expensive, but hey, heat pipes baby ! I am considering buying one these days...but I can't find it anywhere in my country (Serbia&montenegro, former yugoslavia) nor in neighboring countries.
