recently purchased four sticks samsung 256mb pc2700
samsung part# M368L3223CTL-CB3 module numbers K4H5060838C-TCB3 three sticks are the "214" and one is a "211" - number on module in upper right hand corner of chip... here are the results - kr7a, xp1600+, ax7, mem timings 2-6-2-1T 4 bank, cpu fast command decode - fast stick#1 200 fsb clean and stable out of the box, no burn in, not run at anything but 200...vmem = 2.75v sandra mem = 3026 / 2737 stick#2 200 fsb clean and stable out of the box, no burn in, not run at anything but 200...vmem = 2.75v sandra mem = 3026 / 2734 stick#3 200 fsb clean and stable out of the box, no burn in, not run at anything but 200...vmem = 2.75v sandra mem = 3025 / 2733 stick#4 200 fsb clean and stable out of the box, no burn in.initially no post at 200 until raise vmem to 2.85v sandra mem = 30222 / 2727...this is the "211" stick and after 2 hour burn-in at 2.85v it behaves like the first three sticks. ...why oh why mr. samsung did you feel the need to change your process and make -dtl modules?

Money, money, money, money...Mo-----ney!
Shrinking the die, to get higher yield out of a wafer lead to smaller IC components and interconnects==more crosstalk, thermal noise and inability to absorb the rise in voltage necessary to run the DTL at the same speed and performance as the CTL. The lack of any vendor using the PC2700 as a standard, AMD's reluctance to move to a 166 FSB CPU and the forthcoming DDRII "wave" probably gave Samsung the scent of profits to come so they left the DDR2700 manufacturing process to the "cost-efficient" engineers while the performance engineers went to work on DDRII. IMHO

Newegg says they talked to Samsung about the CTL/DTL sticks and supposedly the only difference is they are made on different assembly lines and in theory should perform the same. Of course "in theory" and reality are totally different animals

I'd like to see a winbond stick of ddr come right out of the package and go into a mobo and run 200fsb with 2-6-2-1 timing. Not saying it can't be done, I've just never seen anyone post on it.....

http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/Memory/DDR333/page4.htm
Here's a good page on winbond chips. I found this while doing a search about my Kingston ddr333 w/windbond chips. Looks like this is nothing like ctl. Here's a really bad review with it running cas2 http://www.ocprices.com/index.php?re...action=reviews

my CTL's suck, I just got em, can't even get past 145 with them!! WTF!!!
![]() If I go above 145 it just doesn't post, nothing at all. THese are fresh sticks, so they might need some burn-in, but I should be able to do 166 out of the box right? could it be the Athlon then? Or perhaps the wonderous restrictions of my SB Live!? Any help greatly appreciated

you sure they are CTL? if so, where'd you get them?? I want more!! heh. You probably need to set your vmem from 2.55 (default) to 2.75 or maybe even 2.85. And check your PM
