I think it was the RAM voltages that were holding me back and the fact that the other half had the central heating on (my pc is located directly above our boiler) Today the weather has been kinder so I've had the heating off and the window open. Temps are now lower and I've been able to bench it a little more stable. Were you going to suggest lowering the ratio by any chance? |

I give up. I broke 21k in 2001SE, but no where's near DjTonic's score, so, I guess i'm out.. It was nice having that avatar for a while!

I think there is still at least a couple more MHz I can sqeeze out of this baby yet but I was a real pain to get to where I am now. I had to push the ram to 3.2v which although OCZ reckon is ok, its still outside their warranty specs. This ram cost me £250 which is really expensive and I wanted the best there is so there is no way I'll be going over that. If you cant get any further on your setup mate, I salute you. You really gave me some hard numbers to beat. |

Well...i think i will retire from the competition for now, as i said i really can't afford breaking anything atm. I really need some better ram to compete seriously anyway, my current ram won't run stable past 235mhz fsb in 1:1....i had to run it at 5:4 to get my scores where they are now.
Once again congratulations!!! Well deserved!

Cartman,
out of interest, did you run 2001 with the HyperThreading switched off? I tried but was getting lower scores. I was expecting to see and increase. |

Thats wierd - was getting a consistent 50-100 point drop in the scores with it turned off.

Just wondering, do you guy's think it's normal for a 2.8C on a MAX3, during 5:4 divider, to not go past 260fsb? I have an SP-94 with AS Ceramique and a 92mm Tornado on that thing, the side of my case open, and it FREEZING in my room! I've tried from 1.65 to 1.725v on the CPU and nothing seems to be stable! Any suggestions?

Yes take off the northbridge HS, get rid of the crappy thermal pad and put some AS5 on it, then reattach, worked for me. It could also be the situation cartman mentioned but its worth a try. |

yeah looks like it bud, time for a higher grade chip like a 3.0 or 3.2 to make up for the FSB.

I put a pic of the inside of the case.... It's really really crowded in there, as it's a PC-6070 with TON'S of stuff crammed in it! But I bench with the side off, the room freezing, and I had put a 92mm Tornado on it after the pic was taken! I wish it wasn't a limitation of the chip, I've been thinking about a new one, any suggestions on what I can get that'll get me to about 3.8GHz?

If you're lucky a 3.0chip will do 3.8ghz....but not all of them do, to be really certain to reach 3.8 you should get a 3.2 or 3.4 nortwood, if you have the budget that is...

incidentally if you read the prometeia review here you will see I had that chip at 4.3ghz stable on prommie, and it booted at 4.8ghz so there is ALOT of future proofing.

Has to be said that my 3.0 is rock solid at 3.7 w/1.65v. yet just 1MHz above that and I get errors in Prime95 no matter what the voltage. I can get it to bench at 3.96 but that is the limit. Anything else and it reboots. If I take it up to 4.0 it doesn't boot and mashes up the CMOS.
I wonder when I get my shiny new avatar

Now here's a wierd thing. I've now got it running at 3.76@1.65 and it seems to be stable - no errors at all in Prime95.
I couldn't get it to this over the weekend. Wierd. |

Fastest Rig Comp
Sorry the update has taken so long.......it was due to circumstances beyond my control, and hopefully will not happen in the future.
The thread has been cleaned out of old post/losing entries and the only entries left are the winner's. A PM was sent to an Admin to change the avatar's that need to be changed There are some really good scores this week, congrat's to the current competition winner's........very well deserved!!Roadee DH Moderator

I noticed that Logla haven't gotten the fastest rig avatar yet, and he should have got it three days ago. So out of respect i removed it from my account, it isn't mine to wear anymore....
