Overclocking and Manufacturers Warrenty

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but ohh well... I've been wondering about something for a lil while now... I know that if u overclock ur vid card for instance, it's not covered by the warrenty. But if u do overclock it and it goes bad, and u send it back if the warrenty hasn't expired, can the respective manufacturer know that the card has been overclocked? What do u guys think?

They wont know. Its not the nicest thing to do but who am I to talk. I broke a 3400+ taking off the heatspreader, glued it back on with superglue, and RMA'd the sucker lol.

Hmm that's what i was thinking, dipstick. I guess it's just a matter of conscience by the person. Besides i think it's actually good for the soul to be bad once in a while...hehehe...

One ? though that is a lil off-topic, when u overclock ur vid card, does it require more power from the PSU? I am thinking of overclocking my card, but i dunno if it would have any effects on my PSU (ie if it can handle the overclock properly) which is only at 340W... Does anyone think i should be fine if i overclock it? I forgot to add that i got 5 LED fans, 2 hds, 1 DVD ROM, 1 CDRW, 1 sb audigy 2 zs.

How'd you bugger it? Overheat? Or accidental death? Was it radical overclocking or within stock cooling?

My 9700 Pro died from OCing also. Was a bad OC'er too, ran at only 25MHz over stock and it died out of nowhere. Those were some of the hottest cards I have seen..

hehe - it was an awesome overclocker in it's day - I could get it just past 9800xt speeds on the core and 320 on the mem... then I did no ocing for a couple of months and it started overheating - games started buggering up - restarts etc... I think it was a pre-mature death due to the ocing.

It was a sapphire 9700np - stock 275/270 - oc to 415/320 - like I said - awesome overclocker - would get 5600 out of it in 3d mark 03 - all on stock cooling

Sapphire cards are bomb ass OCers.....my gf's 9600pro does 520/780 from 400/600 on stock cooling. I think my next card will be a sapphire card .
