Safe Temps?

I've overclocked a Barton 2500XP Mobile to 2.5 ghz (12.5*200) and I'm running it at a seemingly stable 1.71 volts (I haven't run prime95 yet). My temperature range for it is about 42-56. What would be a safe maximum before I start decreasing the longevity of my chip?

hell, i'd keep it right where it's at. Stable, but damn good performance.

However, i would OC it higher just to see how high it could go .

I would draw the line at about 55c load. Nice OC you got with only 1.7v

try on improving your CPU's cooling. I'm at 42~45 load, and 37~40 idle usually depending on how hot my room is.

You can check the temperature tolerance in the manufacturers spec's documents. It varies a bit in between exact manufacturing models, but somewhere up to around 85C is typically safe for Bartons. But then you are overclocking as well wich puts extra stress on it. So with a bit of a margin I wouldn't worry about anything below 70C, measured after an hour of full load or so.

Well if anything under 60 is a fairly safe load temperature, I'll keep it running at 2.5ghz. Thanks for your input.

Anything over 50 makes me worry. I used an SP-94 with a 92mm panaflow and it did the trick.

Well

Processors can still operate at 60 C..A lot of people like to keep below that. I believe I read somewhere that temperature flux (From very high to low or vice versa) hurts the CPU's longevity more. I personally think you're doing very well for your temps. If don't hit 60 C.. it's all good.

Athlon XPs now have locked multipliers, so if you have a 2500 barton, you can't get more than 2.2 (11x200). Well, i'm sure you can get more out of the FSB, but people usually set the FSB to 200. It all depends on what your system can handle.
