hi all.
after im getting the VGA silencer to oc my 9800pro im thinking of doing some basic overclocking to my p-4 2.4C , i won't start playing with it before i get some proper heat sink + fan (no water cooling pls) , was thinking of the thermallight sp-4 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...109-012&depa=0 but there are so many other that look good like gigabyte, zalaman ,coolmaster, thermaltake etc what do you think? there are so many cpu cooloers out there im a little lost. TIA ,ledzep.

i read that the delta 92x92x38mm produces 110.18 CFM @ 4800 RPM with 55.0 dBA how loud is that compared to the stock p-4 fan? thanks , ledzep.

loud. 3db difference gives you a noticeable difference, 10 db doubles the spl. i would GUESS that you are looking at min 20db. those stock intel fans are reasonably quite.
zardon is riht on about that fan. good place to see power req/spl/cfm differences/ratios is over at directron. they have a wide selection of fans with stats.

jacking voltage on your CPU with a 7000 zalman is risky. they arent really meant for overclocking. I would push the chip as far as I could with a zalman silent cooler but only on stock volts.

wow i didnt know that , real loud then.
now the problem is that i cant get the ystech in israel , can i mound a 80mm fan on the thermalright? if not then maybe ill have to drop the idea of getting it as 92mm fans are not very common here. back to the drawing table? ledzep.

the SLKs come with mounting brackets for 80mms and 92mms you are fine, you will have to compromise a little with the smaller blades of the 80mms just try and keep the db under 45db (if possible get a controller to adjust yourself until you find the sweetest DB to CFM).

Firstly, find the maximum OC without touching core volts most coolers will handle this fine unless you have a silent fan or poor heatsink then dont even try it. If you have a hard-core cooler then start slowly raising volts and overclocking further, pushing the core a little more each time, all the time watching temps with minor adjustments. most people fry hardware by being careless and taking a 1.55 volt cpu to 1.75 volts and overclocking by 600mhz then after 5 minutes they wonder why the screen has gone black and the room smells weird. Also remember when you are cranking up the fsb that ram is being pushed harder, especially if you are running 1:1 so get memtest+ and test your stability BEFORE hitting the OS, then you are assured if your ram is being pushed too high and cant cope or latencies are too tight you wont risk hosing your os/paging file. easy to hit ESC, go back into bios and relax timings, play with voltages etc. or you can alter the ram divider if its just not up to the task. Zalman coolers are wonderful, I love them but I dont recommend them for anything serious regarding overclocking, ive taken cpus up 200mhz with stock volts easy enough with these coolers but putting extra core volts into a cpu to push it further is asking for trouble, unless your case temps are low and your temps are decent. overclocking on air? get an SLK and a good fan - or better yet just get water, then fan noise isnt an issue. |

thanks guys appriciate the help and fast replys
so to go with the slk-947U or sp-94 ? i will use a 80mm fan prefrable with speed control. any suggestions for decent cfm to db fans? i can get coolmaster, thermaltake, spire, enermax, sunbeam, zalaman, and vantec over here. what im planing is to overclock my p-4 2.4C cpu by finding the max speed using the PRIME95 proggy without volt modding then i will run sys at about 10% lower just for safty , once i will feel sys is stable i may consider some voltmodding. thanks again , ledzep.

no, you want an 80mm or 92mm fan. make sure before you purchase you check the CFM and DB.

thanks guys you really helped me narrow it down.
this are my 3 prefered options (i can't get them here but im sure ill find a website that delivers internationaly or have some friend bring it to me from the usa) 1.Antec - smartcool 92mm thermaly controled with temp sensor. at 30c ->33cfm @ 1680rpm with 26.7dba at 50c ->40cfm @ 2070rpm with 31dba 2.EverCool - AL9025B case fan 92mm cfm's 30.66/38.35/48.5 @ rpm's 1800/2200/2600 with noise of dba 24/26/28 respectivly (so i guess its manualy controled rpm?). 3.Enermax UC-9FAB 92mm manual speed control cfm(max) 33.25 @ 2300rpm with 29.8dba. all are around the same price range for me and all should fit fine on the Thermalright slk-947U or slk-978U. what do you think is the best? TIA ledzep.
