Thermalright due to release XP-120 (120mm fan capable)
Thanks to Fallang jeff for finding this today, I just had to post it as I had no idea Thermalright had this due to be released so soon.
Hate small fans? I think most people do and its great to see more case manufacturers using 120mm fans, instead of noisy 80mms. Thermalright are the choice of most overclockers who stick to air and this looks like a kick ass heatsink capable of handling 120mm fans. Introducing the new all aluminum XP-120 heat pipe cooler from ThermalRight. The ThermalRight XP-120 is an extremely unique cooler as it can be used with a 120 x 120x 38 fan. This means you can use a low volume fan so great cooling and low noise or a high volume fan for super high performance. The XP-120 also features an extremely efficient heat pipe technology for excellent heat dissipation. The ThermalRight XP-120 can be installed using the stock P4 heatsink retention bracket. Designed for use with Intel Pentium-4 socket 478 3.2 GHz and above only. preorder yours! |

ive a few quad led 120mms here. ive a bit of a fan fetish to be honest
Seriously though, its a damn fine piece of engineering this, have you seen it uses the P4 retention bracket to mount ? its not bolt on like the last series. be interesting to see if they make a special adaptor for Athlon systems or pass on it. |

i most likely would get one if they produce something that would make it fit the athlon....thermal right has some quad led fans right? i plan to finally get rid of the case that i'm getting annoyed with... and with a little more nagging.. i can finally get my sister to do some sweet custom air brushing...

Yeah YS Tech 120mm's are nice especially when you have 4 of them in your case.
Hmm, I also have two extra ones. I think I'll pitch 'em.

I actually tried to build a small windtunnel for a small intel processor, that had a 80mm fan pushing and an 80mm fan pulling air through a venturi style air pipe, the diameter of the pipe became about the size of the processor fins as it pass over, it fin in my case, and I made it with an old vacumn molder I used to make model parts. the cooler worked but it was noisey, owing to the material I used for the pipe, but it was just styrene plastic, and it got hot and then soft when I jacked the voltage on the processor, it ultimately failed because the plastic couldnt handle the heat, but has anyone seen a venturi style aircooler for processors out there?
The idea is sound, you simply put two large fans at either end of a large pipe that pushes air from say 120mm diameter opening into a small 55mm or smaller attachment for the fins, then draws it right back out again the other side. seems sound, and condensation would be very very low I hope...it doesnt cover the fins but actually draws the air around the fins by the vacumn created by the low pressure area, wish I had my original drawings, but it works like a siphon..and the air is compressed making it cooler in the throat of the pipe.

Hmm I wonder if that thing would fit in my case. Though I'm seriously thinking about going with H20.

YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan - 4 Pin (FG-004-YS) If you want the best performing 120mm fan available, look no further than the amazing YS-TECH FD1238. Pushing no less than a monstrous 125CFM, this fan provides the ultimate custom case cooling solution. Fitted with a 4-pin Molex (PSU) passthrough connector. - Speed - 2800RPM - Output - 125CFM - Decibels - 40.5dBA - Dimensions - 120x120x38 I got one of these to play with ( I tend to order alot of fans to play with), and its an incredible fan - one of the best ive used, only problem is although its only 40db I dont really handle noise levels well for long periods of time, ive sensitive ears..... |

One on top, front, two side. I also added the NB-1 for my northbridge. The two side fans one is blowing over the northbridge, and is hitting my ram too. The bottom fan is blowing around my lower PCI slots. I still have the 2 Mechatronics in the rear running silenced as well. If I do get H2O I only plan on doing my processor for obvious reasons. Oh I also have that same Zalman bracket as you cooling the viddy. Suprising it's not that loud, plus I added some sound dampening foam as well. |

I think I will, I can mold lexan if its thin enough without cracking it...got lots of time on my hands, think I am gonna make a new heat pipe for my puter. the auto sound installer here in town uses a sort of tacky thick adhesive mat for stereo installs, it works for door speakers and is weather and heat resistant and cheap too, works better than the current adhesive mats for cases too...hmmmmmmmquieter than dynamat

About time they came out with a heatsink that uses 120mm fans. That thing is excellent for P4 users; if I had one I'd be all over it lol. As for fans I now only use Vantec Stealth's. I have two 120mm and three 80mm stealth fans and you cant even hear my rig. Highly recommended for the noise haters.

I have found them to be MORE silent and have a good CFM rate, comparable with YS. Take a look at them here. 90mm fan: 2800RPM, 64.15CFM @ 34.3dBA (at max setting) 120mm fan: 2300RPM, 94.92cfm @ 30.1dBA (at max setting) BTW, In my new Tsunami case, I replaced the default fans that came with the case with Enermax ones, BIG difference in noise and cooling! Enjoy!
