So first off my rig is an gigabytle 7n-400l nforce 2 board, a amd barton 2500+, and one stick of 512mb of Kingston HyperX pc4400 ram.
I have the cpu running at 200fsb stabily. The ram is running at 400mhz. I read though that the 4400 ram is suppose to run at 550mhz. I cant get it to run faster than 400mhz. i used Sandra to benchmark my memory and that my memory speed is comparable to a pc3200 stick. What gives? the score was like 2800/2500. Am i doing something wrong? How do i get my ram to run at the speeds its suppose to? If you need mor einfo feel free to ask Thanks for ANY information guys. |

if the FSB bus is lower then the memory.. you won't really see any improvement.... it's due to the memory having to wait for the CPU anyways (you can actually see sometimes running async results in lower results sometimes).... Now if you increase the FSB... you'll see improvements.. but then your REALLY overclocking

Well then whats the point of even pc4400 ram? No one can get FSB that high so the ram wont even be utalized. Plus why is my ram running at the same speed as a pc3200, does pc3200 run at 400mhz?

PC4400 is made for intel p4 systems so overclockers can run really high FSBs in 1:1 (cpu:mem) ratio. It's not made and will give you worse performance than real PC3200 in an AthlonXP system. The reason your RAM is @ 400mhz (PC3200) is, because you have a 1:1 ratio and if your cpu is @ 200 your mem will also be @ that speed. In Athlon systems your much better off to get PC 3200 with tight timings for general use or OCZ EL/EB 3500/3700 for overclocking.

Ok it is possible to hit those FSBs on an AthlonXP, but you need a mobile barton (or a damn good desktop one), DFI board, and PC4000+ ram that the baord actually likes, lots of PC4000+ ram have troubles, because of the very high latencies, atleast with AtlonXP systems.

PC4000 or more pretty well guarantees the tightest setting possible with the ram at say 3200 or 3500 speeds.... alot of people buy the faster stuff with the knowledge that they are gauranteed these fast timings even though they are no where near what the memory is capable of in terms of MHZ
