Basic you mean normal OEM stock heatsinks...or just plain cooling a self builder would use?

I might as well go ahead and say it, for air almost nothing beats Thermalright.

go for ThermalTake V12 - around 30$ - excellent cooling solution, can make a good compromise between loudness/efficency

ive got a thermaltake venus 12 hooked up right now. 32C on an amd64 3200+. pretty damn cool if you ask me.
i cant hear the HS at all either, my case is louder then that is, and that case is barely audible when ive got music turned on low. i can just hear my music right now cause its turned down so far, and i can just barely hear the case fans.

Water blocks are like the heatsink, it is what would be touching the cpu. It makes contact with the cpu, while having a maze on it, that the water flows through picking up heat and transferring it away to cool the cpu. I hope you understood that.

If you are wanting to make a move into water cooling, you will want to do a lot of research on products and practices.

Trawl the internet for reviews, forums and anything water cooing related.

A couple of sites to get you started:

Yea,I understand that...thanks!When this is done,do you have to do any wireing changes or anything? Are there people/companies that install this stuff for you?To get watercooling on an Alienware, you have to get the ALX series.$5500.00-$6ooo.oo......

go to (besides links that Logla gave you) www.dangerdan.com , buy their wattercooling set, you will get manual how to install, it is not very complicated, it's like building railway for the litle toy trains, you will see on dangerdans web site how it looks like, and it will be clear to you. CUstom made performance sistems are a bit more complicated since you make all by yourself, but this pre-built sistems are breeze to instqal

Zalman also creates some rather cool watercooling, the new Reserator 1 system is something really unique: http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...dx=63&code=021

That reserator is one ugly motherf**ker

http://www.bit-tech.net/review/93 - a watercooling kit review.

Actually, for quiet cooling, rather than massive overclocking, there are much neater kits, even those which fit the resrvior in a spare 5 1/4" bay.
http://qtec.info/products/product.htm?artnr=13793
There you have the simple 2 piece - block and reservior/pump/radiator/fan - the questin is, is it any quieter or cooler than a good 80mm fanned HSF ?

The basics of a watercooling kit are:

1. The block (or blocks) - fitted to the CPU (and for full watercooling, also to the graphics card, thouigh a bit trickier)
2. The reservoir (or "tank") - holds the water
3. Pump - circulates it - in some systems, integrated in the resrvoir
4. Radiator - in "quiet cooling" systems, the reservioir may also be the radiator
5. Radiator fan
6. Tubing
7. Water treatment ... anti-algae, anti corrosion, UV flourescent if you use UV case lighting - actually, a colourant also hlps you to see if the system is filling properly.

It's a lot of palaver though, so I'd exhaust the limits of air cooling first.

ups ?! sorry I misstyped that address

anyway Zalman watter kit is made to be silent on cost of performance...and it does that job great.

As for reservoir, it is not needed in most cases, I dont have one now, I had it but removed it, no temperature differences at all, only more time is needed to get to working temperature when you have a reservoir...

A matter of taste, i find it quite cool and very effective.

On the other side i find systems like KS70 CPU Water Cooler Bay to be totally useless, they may be silent, but they sure hell aint a good cooling solution. A good heatsink with a lownoise fan, does a much better job, then theese bay "watercooling" kits, if you even can use the word coooling.

Your basics are also a bit wrong or not precise enough. First of all a reservoir is not needed in most systems and this statement: "4. Radiator - in "quiet cooling" systems, the reservioir may also be the radiator" is also a bit wrong. A radiator doesn't make any sound, the fan on the radiator is the noisy part and most silent systems has an radiator, becuase it cools down the water and making the need for a noisy fan in the system smaller.
