Which is better? Multiplier or FSB OC?

Hi,

I have a AMD 2500+, and I just bought a new mobo that is capable of 400 Mhz FSB speeds, and also new 400 Mhz RAM.

I have the feeling that my best option to OC is to set the FSB at 200 with a multiplier of 10, since it will run in sinch with the RAM and mobo, but I'm not an expert.

what is your opinion?

You'll see more performance gain with fsb overclocking no doubt.

I presume that your barton is unlocked, so why dont you lower your multiplier to lets say 7or 8 and raise your fsb in small increments until you reach the limit of your memory....then you up your multiplier to you maximal stable frequenze....
could i ask what motherboard and ram you got?

Oh...and what cooling do you have on your cpu?

Ok...never heard about that brand of ram....but when upping your fsb, you might want to up the volt to the ram a bit, to achieve a higher overclock(i'm sure you already knew about this), 2.8v is safe for most ram. And since you have top-notch cpu cooling you can up the voltage to the cpu too.
But most Bartons will run at atleast 11x200(3200+) with stock voltage.
It all really depends on how high overclock you want, if you wanna go past 2200mhz, you propably will have to feed more volt to it...

This RAM came as a surprise for me also, It was suggested by a friend, and it was much cheaper than I expected, but after reading some reviews I was pleasantly surprised. I'm at the office right now but later I'll post the model number of it and the link for the review.

I've not messed with any voltages yet, because I just got the cpu cooler yesterday.

Also, the ram as it's own heatsinks, I have a vantec cooler with heatsink in the north bridge and a passive heatsink from vantec at the south bridge.
