I ain't gonna run it that fast forever though, don't wanna eff up my precious gfx card

Awesome results, just watch those pins that hold on the heatsink- I have heard of them actually melting and then the heatsink comes a little loose / falls off -
Only reason I say that is because I've heard of it multiple times. I bet it runs nice and hot at those speed, but if you see no artifacts, you're safe.

Wish my 9700pro's memory still went that fast. My core still goes 375, only with modified heatsink and AS Ceramique though. If you modded the heatsink and put some good copper coolers on the mem you could squeeze more out of it and run it at those speeds all the time without worries.

If you had a temp sensor on there before and after heatsink mod and mem heatsinks, you would be amazed at the difference in temps.. (even if it doesn't give you that much more mhz- it will give you longevity as I'm sure you already know)

See that little fan and heatsink on the heatplate? It's a amazing how much heat that dissipates off the card..

If that card does that good stock/ with stock cooling, imagine what it will do with a nice modified heatsink and good ram-"sinks" I'd love to mod that card out, you got a good one there!

that's a scary thought. I had to open the case and check, just in case. still snug... don't know what I would do if I ruined my card like that.

EDIT: I just noticed futuremark ORB is down for maintenance until tomorrow

You're probably safe if you have even halfway good case ventilation, it's just something to keep an eye on..

Hey, where did you get that card anyway? I wonder if it's a different stepping chip than the older ones or something?

I got mine a long time ago (about a year and a half) at BestBuy, I wonder if most of the later versions OC better? hmmm..

well my first AIW9700Pro, I got from Amazon in May 2003. but it was a bad one, had glitches in every 3D thing I ran.
then Cat Maker and WTWolf arranged an RMA for me, and ATI sent me another one which one of their guys Siamak had tested prior to shipping, and that one worked fine, that's the one I have now. got it in July 2003.

Ah that explains it, an ATI selected sample which was especially tested for you, you just can't get it any sweeter than that

Yeah, it doesn't get any better than that- I paid $330 for mine at BestBuy- I had to return 3 of them until I got one that wasn't defective- They all had glitches and artifacts at default speed. The first one wouldn't run any 3D apps at all.

heh, I don't know if they hand-picked a special one for me or anything, but I like the card regardless

oh, and the ORB is back up . . . just in time for a new score
I took the memory down a notch, and was able to push the core a notch higher
I thought more memory was the thing to go for and didn't expect better results,
but nevertheless, the score went up a bit!
now at 398/344, the score: 6326

GT4 - Mother Nature ........ 40.7 fps

nice score vampy... but does ur new mobo/cpu combo help that score in any way? I just find it amazing that a 9700pro could reach that high compared to a 9800pro at those same speeds...

yeah it does, more than I thought it would in fact. I ran 3DMark03 (among many other tests) before to compare with, and with default quality and stock speeds, I gained ~12% from the upgrade. I was expecting 8-10%

WOW! Good job Vampy! You went over and beyond! That still show how great the 9700pro was and still is a wonder of a card.

Aha, that explains a lot, cuz i just ran a test of my card at XT speeds and i still got a score lower than ur's... So if i ran mine at those speeds of ur card, the score would be much less...

I've only run 2001 stock so far, and got 18,137. sounds like the next step in my overclocking adventures. I doubt I can get almost 2000 more points on gfx OC alone, prob have to bump the CPU for that.

thanks blade

like i said..... about 500 mark difference (give or take) is actually dependant on the CPU/Mobo/Mem and possibly hardrive....

i had my 9800 pro stock running 450/405.... pulled in 6100 marks..... damn toasty though....

running 415/370 (All the time).. and i JUST break the 6000 k.. (6055 was my last run)

at stock....378/338..... i get 5850+
