Questions about overclocking GeForce 5900xt

First, I am using the Omega version of the latest Nvidia drivers.One of the tabs in the options is one where clock frequencies can be altered.
Is this the Cool Bits to which people are referring?

Assuming that it is, has anyone had experiance using the "auto overclocking" function of the Nvida Drivers?
Is it safe? (I don't want to cook my brand spankin new vidcard

)

Next, what is the temp at which I should become concerned? (There is a temp moniter in the driver options as well,
so I can check fairly easily).

Also, aside from increased temp, are there any other adverse effects of overclocking a card? (I understand that overheating
can damage hardware. What I mean is can the hardware be damaged by the OCing itself, assuming that the temp stays low?)

And finally, is it better to leave the card OCd, or turn it down when not needed? (The only thing I really need to OC for is Doom3, everything else runs great as is).

Im pretty sure it would be better in the long run to only oc when you need to. But im not a professional so i could be wrong.
