a64/nforce3 overclocking

Well this new bios is quite interesting, though I found most of the options either to confusing to touch, or they rendered my machine useless by touching them.

Is it freakin possible to overclock the cpu and not the ram?? I am so lost in this bios it isn't even funny..I changed the..god I cant even recall now..I suppose it is the a64 version of the FSB, which forced my ram over what I set for "max mem overclock" and gives me a low OC on the cpu before my ram is unstable. What am I missing? Any pointers what I should look for in the bios? Should max mem overclock be locking my ram at 333mhz when set to "166" as I expected, and perhaps this bios is buggier than I thought?

System Specs

try loosening RAM timings? to 2-3-3 or 2.5-3-3, etc
is there no option to set the speed of the RAM at all? you can try settin it to a lower ratio, so it won't go nuts when you overclock afterwards.

btw make sure the command rate timing of the RAM is not 1T. look for an option like "command rate" or "1T timing" or "2T timing". set to 1T, or Disable for "1T timing", or Enable/Auto for "2T timing"
having at 1T increases memory bandwidth efficiency, but severely limits OC potential.

All that was to auto, as when I mucked with timings I did not get any better results with custom settings..I'm at 2.5-3-3-7 per what the board suggested, using a mismatched pair of pc2700 that have always proved to play very well together. I can't dump one of them as bfvietnam is very bitchy with 512 or less. I will check for the 1T/2T in the morning (ok afternoon, my morning.).

I also can't find a ratio option..I have FID Hammer Control, and HT Frequency..? I feel like a noob once again, grrr.
