the offical barton vcore thread
many people claims high vcore rate such as 1.9x can damage the cpu fast.. and its too risky. others think different.. so i think we should clear this up.
please post your opinion in the subject. p.s. i have barton 2800 and only 1.95 pass prime test under 12.5x200mhz while others use 1.95v under 219mhzx12.5 isnt it weird ? Last edited by REGENERAT1ON; Sep 26, 2004 at 10:59 PM. |

i wouldn't go past 1.9v on a thouroughbred B or a barton unless it's watercooled.

, it shortens it's life due to the basic theory of electrical degradation. The more power the more heat (heat adds a smal amount of resistance) the more voltage in a circut the faster it degrades. But were talking years! not days Many people have ran the CPU's @ over 2 volts for verry long times! It could be the paticular CPU's limit, it could be your temps, then again it could be your south/north brige holding you back, you can volt mod (pencil trick, that will up both) or /also use a hacked bios such as the ubber bios, that allows you to chose the north bridge voltage

Well there are some standard voltages for AMD, you can tell from its label on processor. Mine is Barton 2500+ @3200+ 200x11 1.7V and I think 1.85 is the top limit for me. I don't want to go any further. If I may suggest, you better find a better proc (you can tell from its label once again before you but it), running at that voltage really makes your proc dying.

I have my Barton from 2500+ to 2.2 GHz 3200+ and left the voltage at stock which is about 1.65v. No stability issues and it runs like a champ.

I'm running 2 2500 Bartons, one locked and one unlocked. The locked is running at 220x11 @ 1.85v water cooled for about a year now and the other runs at a max of 12x210 or 215x11 @ 1.80v also water cooled. I think my ram is holding both of them back. Temps on both stay around 40c under max load.

Man, that cannot be that way! You shouldn't use 1.95 VCore unless you're using WC...or just for a bench. Try to lower...1.8V max for aircooling.

Had to put 1.85 volts through my Barton 2500 rto get it stable @ 3200 speeds. All is well now, temps are also fine. Running at 33c idle and 39 full load.

thermalright makes good stuff
. My friend bought me the thermalright northbridge cooler for my b-day. All copper, that thing is a beauty. I just want to get the sp-94 and a 92MM tornado to go w/it. Then i'll have a better OCing system .

My old ePox board did upto 2.2v. I never took my old xp2400/xp2500 chips that high though. Never went past 1.9v on that board. |

I have my Barton 2500 at 3200 speeds (11x200) and was running it a default voltage for almost a year, then I started getting random crashes about 6 months ago. Now it seems that every 2-3 months I have to bump the voltage 0.25 to keep it stable at 3200 speeds. I'm up to 1.775 now. You think it's on it's last leg?
I'm just using a Volcano 9 HSF but my temps are 32-33 idle, 48-50 under a 3 hour gaming load. Even if it blew up next week, I wouldn't complain. I've been running it at 3200 since I got it over a year and a half or so. I would just get another, maybe a mobile 2500 or 2600.

it shouldn't be dying like that if it's still at stock voltages. But if and/or when it does go out, i'd say get an Athlon 64. The only thing you'd be getting new in an Athlon 64 system would just be a board and CPU if you really think about it. That is unless you want to go all out and get new everything.

I have an Asus A7N8X2.0 and its Bios version 1007. They have 1010 now but there is no 1008 or 1009 and the 1010 is just added support for Sempron procs.
