Lowered FSB and my temps go up?!!?

So I was running a nice moderate overclock for myself. Nothing big, just 10% or so. My temps were very low (max 39C\100F degrees under load but i almost never saw that hight) and I was happy. Well I have a Plextor DVD burner on loan and I decided to try out my firewire port since I have NEVER used it....all of the sudden my computer slowly over the course of the day tried to murder itself, and after much testing, I realized that it was the overclock. When I returned to normal clock speeds, all was well(wonder if anyone can explain that?) Wellll anyway now my temps are higher. It gets to about 100 degrees NO LOAD! none at all and im not overclocking now. These were the friggin LOAD temps on my OC settings...

can someone explain this?!!?

I have a few theories that i thought I'd bounce off the experts:

1) the furnace turned on...now the tempreture in here has raised only slightly, so im not sure if thats it or not.

2) I was previously running the NGO nforce2 driver that lowers temps very well but for some reason I'm pretty sure its stopped working. Dunno why it would stop but my copy of XP is kinda flakey sometimes.

3) the heatsink is way dusty...I fixed this though and the tempretures did not improve AT ALL

so could someone please help me!!!! Thanks guys.

Maybe the heatsink got bumped somehow and the thermal compound between the cpu/heatsink is not making proper contact between the two?

Just an idea

I suppose thats possible.

even so, i mean the difference isnt THAT huge I suppose.

hmmmmmmmmmm

I'd hate to have to reapply thermal compound...it takes a good week before it sets in properly.

ah well maybe i'll check that.

What are your temps at idle normally?
