the scariest thing happened to me today.
i was going to change the heatsink on my NB and i noticed that my heatsink wasnt even attached to my NB chip. it had popped loose somehow. i have been running 30C temps on my NB since i got the mobo. i have a MSI K8T NEO FSR skt 754 mobo. i took off the heatsink and the thermal paste was hardened to the chip and i was supprised it wasnt burnt at all. i guess that my CPU heatsink a thermalright XP-120 with a panoflo 120mm fan had saved my mobo. the 120mm fan blows onto the NB because of the large amount of space it takes up. man i'm so lucky, i hate to have to get another mobo because of that alone.

its held in with those metal hooks right?
A friend of mine had the same problem... only he didnt get his NB saved.. he had to get the next Gen mobo... which still had the same kind of hooks.. but ehh I didnt make the decision...

I think most mainboards now come with CPU Overheating Protection. Once the CPU gets around 58 degrees C, the computer will automatically shut off, and you can't turn it back on for at least half an hour. This feature saved my CPU a couple of days ago...

i had cool and quiet off and thermal throttling off. and this was my Northbridge heatsink not my CPU heatsink. it uses the plastic screws to attach to the mobo.
