64 bit 3000-3200+ 90nm oc speeds?

I'm thinking about buying the Athlon 64 3400+ with the 1mb cache and 754 pins but I can't make my mind up because I'm also thinking of buying the socket 939 based 3000+ or the 3200+ 90nm cpu's. I was wondering if anyone could post their oc speeds on air. I know that the socket 754 based motherboards will soon be a thing of the past but I don't mind since I'll be upgrading again in about two years anyways. Thanks in advance.

I don't have a 939 chip myself... but the 90nm chips are seeing 2.5GHz easily... the 3200 (2000MHz = 200fsb x 10) matches up with ddr500 ram perfectly at 2.5GHz (250x10)

If you are going to overclock then DEFINITELY go for the 90nm winchester chips... if you are just going to sit at stock speeds then the 3400 clawhammer would offer a little more speed... but only at stock.

Interesting stuff. If I were to go with the 3000+ or the 3200+ 90nm 939 based cpu's, I'd want to hit 2.4 ghz. I would be using my 2 sticks of 512 Corsair Value Ram/2.5 cas. Anyone else own either the 3000+ or the 3200+ 90nm Athlong 64 and have hit 2.4 ghz using similar ram?

You'd have to change the fsb:ram ratio

get the chip up to 250fsb and then knock the fsb:ram down from 1:1 to 5:4... there's no way that ram would run at 250MHz (500DDR)... so you'd have the 2.5GHz chip and you would have your ram running at 400DDR

That does not seem too promising. I might as well go with the 3400+ 1mb cache clawhammer and oc that to 2.4 ghz. All I would probably have to do is raise the fsb to 220. Thanks for the replies.

nononno go winchester. Unlike some AMD processors AMD64s don't take a gigantic performance hit when you have lower RAM clocks compared to the CPU. Definatly go for the 3200+ winchester with a XP-90 or Hyper6. with a K8N Neo board from MSI. These chips rock Charlie over at XS hit 3ghz on air

Well, I really like the fact that the socket 939 cpu's run with dual channel ram so I'm trying to find every reason there is to buy the Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm. I have 2 sticks of pc3200 512 mb corsair value ram/2.5 cas latency and so I'm wondering if I could at LEAST get that chip up to 2.4 ghz if I were to purchase it over the 754 based 3400+/1mb cache. I've read reviews about people getting that particular ram up to anywhere between 220-250. What I'm basically trying to say is, will I be able to get the 3200+ 90nm stable at 240x10? Thanks again for the replies.

yes.... you'll be able to get it stable higher than 240x10... also... clock for clock the winchester is faster than the clawhammer

I'm running a 3200+@2.65GHz with only 1.5v and I'm only using PC3200. You can drop the mem to DRR333 and at 265hht the ram would be running at about 220MHz so performance will still be super. Mine does 2.5GHz with no addtional voltage at all and they run cooler than any cpu I've ever seen(even OCed)

how did you manage that? i didnt know that was possible, ive always known it as the memory has to run at the same speed or faster than the CPU bus, else youd be using a ratio lower than 1:1

be more like 5:4 or 2:1 which ive never seen as an option

Well I read that the Athlon 64 supports dividers.. I'm only hoping that IF I need to use that option, that I will not be suffering a performance loss...

You can't run the memory faster than the htt bus on any A64, only the same or lower speed. But as long the MHz are there for the memory it does not matter what divider you use. I have even run mine at 300x9 with the mem in DDR266 which at that speed is like 195MHz(DDR390) and it was faster than 200htt 1:1
