Re: Offical Show Your Rig Off

Updated: Rewired everything and spent some time with cable management. Also, I added a side-panel fan and the main hard drive cage to help with hiding cables.

Scythe fan controller up front to keep the noise down

Top 23cm fan

Side door off

The very rough solution to the side door fan problem (Packaging tape and fan cable extensions).

Guts. Looking pretty neat, although I think I could've done better if I had more time.

What it looks like behind the motherboard tray (Scary isn't it?)

Blue lights all around:

Re: Offical Show Your Rig Off

Here's something less pretty :P

I finally have a photo of my currrent configuration:

It's certainly not a thing of beauty, but it's cool, reliable and near-silent, so I like it

EDIT: In case anyone's wondering, the random bits of black foam are sound insulation I had left over after doing the sides and roof - those removable panels are entirely covered, but there wasn't enough in the roll to properly do the bottom and the rest of the interior.

Does the foam work well? I really need something like it, my rig is getting on the annoyingly loud side

Re: Offical Show Your Rig Off

It doesn't work miracles. It will suppress quiet, high pitched noises, but nothing more.

I keep the noise down in my PC with a fan controller for the GPU fans (the small black thing on the bottom of the case), resistor cables for the case fans and, of course, PWM control for the CPU fan.

I don't drag my motherboards across the carpet or anything. But otherwise I do all my modding on carpet. Just makes the metal shavings hard to clean up though.

That cannot be safe.. Speaking of, I'm thinking about spray painting the inside of my case over the summer. Do you have any tips for me? Also, what kind of spray paint should I use (I want a matte black finish)?

I masked off all the parts that put out quite a bit of heat. I've painted motherboards in the past w/ no issues.

Painting a case is tricky. If you want to do a quality job it is going to take a lot of work. Otherwise the paint will scratch off easily. Hell even if you take a lot of time w/ it, it will scratch.

If you can afford $50-$75 I would HIGHLY suggest getting it powdercoated. Super durable that way.

I painted one case in my life. It looked good until I started to throw gear in it. The paint scratched off so easily. Then it looked like a ghetto rig.

I was thinking about powdercoating, but I don't know if I'll be able to afford it. I knew spray painting would scratch of easily, but I looked up how to do it, and apparently it's pretty common practice, and a lot of people seemed to have spray painted it without any issues.

I don't think the eVGA sticker looks all that bad. Didn't know if there was a visble bearing underneath or not so I just left it.

Anyways, finally watercooled my gaming rig last night.

Damn these 2nd generation i7s are good with OCing...

Is the top shelf of the rig bending slightly? It kind of looks like it is. Maybe its just the angle that the harddrive is on though

Cool, I've see a few of them in the build threads....... Nice work indeed.

Do you expect someone to follow now with their measly quad core, crossfire setup?

Re: Offical Show Your Rig Off

That's not BTX. It's an upside-down EVGA SR2.

Re: Offical Show Your Rig Off

Wish I had a better camera, makes it look bad. Now that I've settled on a fan configuration I thought I'd show this off.

Cooler Master Cosmos 2 with 10 case fans +2 CPU fans all connected to the built in fan controller (3 splitters in use):
-CM 200mm LED top fan, 120mm Gentle Typhoon AP-15 Top fan
-AP-15 Rear fan
-Dual AP-15 fans in the lower hard drive bay
-AP-15 fan in Middle HD fan bay for GPU cooling
-CM 140mm front fan and a CM 120mm front fan just below it which adds cooling to the HDDs.
-Dual AP-15's in the side door blowing out
