if you dont fancy overclocking, a new GFX would be a good upgrade and you would see massive gains, the question is, how much are you willing to spend?

i really want to try oveclocking, and if it's not much to you i want to know how and the damage it could inflict in my system. i'm willing to really spend as long it could really boost the image quality and performance of my games, but ofcourse if there's a suitable videocard that is cheaper but can perform well and the discrepancies contradicting the much expensive video card is not that big, that 's more recomended.

Well looking at your system the best thing you could do if you want to enjoy the current titles is to upgrade your video card, the MX is going to be limiting you badly.

If you wanted a good upgrade look at something like a 9800 pro which you can pick up relatively cheap now the X800s have been released (and the new X850). What power supply are you using? the 9800+ series needs around 75w of power at full load if you have a 300w power supply you might need to also upgrade that.

You also should look into getting 1 gig of ram for your machine as some of the new titles since farcry perform quite badly even on 512 meg of ram. I know this coupled with the new video card might cost a fair amount of money but with the gig of ram and the new GFX you should be set for quite a few more months.

Overclocking your CPU isnt dangerous as long as you dont start pushing the core voltages with poor cooling. you should be able to hit a good 200mhz increase on that CPU at even stock voltages. Im not sure of that motherboard but you should be able to go into the bios and increase the fsb increments to increase CPU speeds.

The 9600 XT is a good card also but I find it hard to recommend 4 pipeline cards today, especially as the 9800 pros which are 8 pipeline cards have dropped so dramatically in price.

let me know how it goes, if you dont have a lot of money to spend just get some generic DDR 3200 ram and shop around even for a second hand 9800 pro. It wont cost the earth and your current CPU is more than capable of handling your gaming.

If you delve into overclocking, just take it slowly in tiny increments and test for stability, dont get too carried away and its always wise to watch your CPU temperatures, they shouldnt increase much with stock core overclocking, but if you start increasing your CPU core voltage you have to start being very careful.
