why can't i o/c?
i have sufficient cooling, my temps are fine, enough voltage but i cannot o/c ever and maintain it.
at most my system has lived 1 day being o/c'd, usually when i o/c i goto 2.8ghz from 2.66, put in a bit more voltage. games run for 30 seconds before crashing and multiple bios flashes are needed and safe mode and system restore to get it back to normal (takes 1/2 hr) my system setup is listed below in my sig, just don't know why I can't o/c when everyone can do it to 3ghz with same proc |

what about your memory timings? Do you tighten those up, or do you loosen them up? Too tight of timings can cause your system to crash like the way you're describing.......i know from first hand experience.

it wouldn't slow the system down. If you were to run a bench mark, the scores wouldn't be as high as you would expect. Say your best score on 3Dmark03 right now is 5589, and you'd expect a score of about 6k @ 3.0 specs, w/tighter timings you could break like 6,500 in 3Dmark03.

Have you tried with an different divider? With lets say 5:4?
It might be your RAM crapping out on you, not liking the higher fsb...and do you have a working agp/pci lock?

it has to be your RAM giving out...i believe your proc could take that easily, but even if it cant it shouldnt cause windows to have to do a system restore, or make a need for a BIOS flash.

did you lock your ram at 400mhz? what ratio are you using? did you lock your agp/pci to 66/33?

Try and lock your AGP to 66mhz and lossen your mem timmings. I just set up my AMD64 and she is gonna cop it tonight with some serious voltage and FSB adjustment!! Muhahaahhahaha

are you sure the ram is at 333? what ratio are you using? if your fsb is 133, then your ratio would be 4/5 for the ram.
you might just be limited by that older core. |

also i forgot to add MAT (PAT) is on Turbo, even if i put it to slow i still get issues o/cing, i get more performance from doing PAT than oc i tried it before when the comp lasted for one day with the o/c @ 2.8ghz. so if someone could tell me what i should do exactly in the bios would be good, the MSI boards are not great overclockers from what i know |

you are right about that, MSI boards are not the best overclocking boards. Why not get another board, like an ASUS or ABIT 865/875 chipset board or something? Then you can run your 2.6 @ 3.0 no problem.

Try update the Bios, ratio should be around 4/5, have you increase Ram voltage alittle?
I got the same MSI Mobo the 865PE Neo2 FISR and I can OC 2.8(800fsb) to 3.2hz with newer heatsink also I have Corsair PC-3200 512mb X 2, been running it for 2 months now. Msi 865PE Neo2 is very good on Overclocking. I can promise if you switch to Asus or Gigabyte with 2.6B it won't make a big different. The problem is B version you should have 800fsb to OC good. My friend had 865PE Neo 2 PSF and he Overclocked 2.4cto 2.8 no problem there. My other question is did you use Corecell, If you do GET rid of it, It's crap. If need help why not check out this forum http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?sid= I use it alot for help and they helped me out good for OC Just giving all my best opinion. Good Luck |
