im not exactly sure how the athlon 64s work, but changing the multiplier increases the freaquency of the processor. the freaquency is obtained by taking the FSB and multiplying it by the multiplier. for example
166 fsb with a 11 multiplier will make your cpu 1826 mhz 166 fsb with a 13 multiplier will make your cpu 2158 mhz |

yes....you do it in the BIOS, as you do with intel. On intel rigs the thing to do is drop the multiplier and raise the FSB, but I'm not sure how the AMD side of the world works so much anymore

Okay I'm going to try to explain this.
Intel has their "Quad-Pumped Bus" 100/133/200/240 x 4 = 400/533/800/1066 The Multiplier is the value x the Front Side Bus. For a 3GHz P4 800MHz 15 x 200 = 3000MHz AMD has their Hypertransport. Which is similar to Intel's Quad Pumped Bus. However, the difference is you can adjust AMD's HT. In other words A64's have 2 multipliers you have to worry about. So you also have to factor in your multiplier, and your HT setting. My MB has all these settings in the "Cell" menu. I'm not sure what it's called in your bios. You might want to wait for one of the peeps here that has this board to reply. Here is a link /w tips and tricks for your board. http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47232 Good Luck |
