I live in an apt with my gardian who cant get anywere due to having no car or ability to walk very far.
So we have to get everything we need online and im wondering were i can get sandpaper online and what kind do I need for lapping copper or aluminum heatsinks. If you could help out that would be nice. =)

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/guides/lappingheatsink/ I use sand paper ment for automotive use. You want a wet / dry sandpaper but you can get away with others. Full sheets are way better then the kits you can buy that give you about 1/4th a sheet. ALLWAYS WEAR A DUST MASK!!! I use grades 320 400 600 800 1200 1500 I take the bottom and color it black with permant marker then I start sanding a little with 800 grit.... this revieals how bad / uneven the surface is weather its got any pits etc.... If the pit[s] ar deep then I drop to 320 untill the black is off the heatsink bottom. Then I mave to the other grades useing a few minutes on each....

Actually, I've never used actual sandpaper to do mine. I've used Lava Soap. It works really well actually, i dont get quite the 'mirror' finish that Neon shows in his guide, but it is very smooth and clean non the less.

Don't foget you want to use a metal polish at the end if you want to give it a mirror finish... plus it's like the finest sandpaper
then use rubbing achol to clean it up being carefull not to tuch! When you get you supplys and finish... I'll post up the pucks of how to properly apply your thermal paste... Quote:
it's mirrored becouse the surfice is so fine and perfictly flat. useing a pomice based compound or a rubbing compaoind doesn't flaten the surfice. Also it leves tiny pits... it just shines it....that guides roadee's ... he beat me to it... I have my own it just was never posted i do mine differently and It simple but i have more steps and explain some suff better... mine ends up like this..... start ![]() Please not it wasn't perfictly flat most have small pits, or or have a concaveness to them, the one I used had quite visable machineing marks marker ![]() 1 , 2 skip a few 3 , 4 skip a while buch more of reading and pictures.... ![]() Thats razor edge flat... this is actually in a dark room but the flash lit it up... you take a fesh razor and hold it against and put a fash ligt on the other side thats the flatness test! mirror! ![]() this image is resized but in the unshrunken image 1600x1200 you can read the news paper print it's so mirrord Be carefull though if you do yours like mine the bond betten the CPU and heatsink is so great i've pulled my CPU out of socket removeing my heatsink cold. it's like glue! is so good of connection. Always warm the heatsink up first, run the system in a bachmark then shut down and then remove... use a little bit of twisting motion after the clamps or scews have been removed to loosen the bond....
