Default Post Can you O/C a Compaq?

I have already posted the story behind this on the Technology forum, but needless to say, I am the owner of my first retail computer and I have yet to find anything out about how to ID the Mobo in my Compaq. I have no bios adjustments I can make to O/C the mobo and CPU even though the mobo is jumperless. I would like to find out if I can flash this Compaq bios off of this thing and if so, how. I also wanna find out how high I can go on CPU's, 1.2 ghz t-bird in there now, and other info about the board. I have already loaded Win2KPro and it runs SO MUCH BETTER than it did with the Compaq crap on there.

Any help would be most appreciated!

TIA

Default Post Easy-peasy.

Just post all the details of your Compaq (Model#, name, stats that you know) and I'll be glad to hunt down the info for ya.

Default Post That's ok...

...I'll still be here. I'm not really a person you know, I'm a very advanced AI program that Zarathustra designed years ago while drunk and forgot about.

One word, no no and no. I had a presario 6019wm and compaqs are not built to be oc'ed at all bios motherboard everything is all base-line and getting compaq to give you jumpers settings is almost impossible. I got the jumper settins for my board (have a friend that services comaq) and no jumper settings for fsb or clock voltgage. I tried for almost 8 months and then just bought a new tower and motherboard.

Ok, about a year ago my wife thought I needed a new computer, I was using an AMD 450mhz, FIC VA503+ Mobo, and a TNT2 32 meg card with 256 megs of sys ram that I built myself. I was going to build my next one also, but my wife knows that I am pretty busy and had been putting it off. So she just goes out and buys me a Compaq Presario desktop 1.2ghz Athlon T-bird system with 17" monitor and a 6 speaker sound system. I sure wasn't gonna get the ass with her for being so nice, but I am now stuck with this computer. I have put a GF4 MX440 64 meg card into it and I get 140 to 150 FPS in Q3 at 800x600. SO I am happy with it. Almost that is. How the hell can I find out what kind of Mobo is in this thing? I want to find out two things. One, how high can I go as far as upgrading the cpu? Two, how can I flash the bios to get rid of the Compaq stuff and maybe overclock a little? I have already formatted the H/D and installed Win2kPro which has effectively removed all the Compaq programs that were choking it up. I have thought of gutting the thing and putting a new P/S in it and going from there, but am wanting to explore these options prior to doing that. Plus, the wife would know if I did that!

Compaq makes thier own boards so flashing the compaq bios out is impossible, no bios to flash to without frying your board..

I would just gut it..

Well, this one has no jumpers and it has an award bios chip in it.

Model #Presario 5103cl Part Number: 470018-579

Serial Number: 3D18JLTBL08R

Purchased in October of last year.

Any help on identifying this Mobo or any other info would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!
