Complete n00b asking questions!
OK, I'm new to the whole OCing thing and I was thinking of OCing my ram(in sig), and possibly tighten the timings. How would I do this? Would my ram be able to run timings as tight as say.... 2-3-3-6? Would I be putting the RAM at great risk? If it could, would I notice much of a performance boost in games? Sorry if those were too much questions, but I am a n00b.

you cant just OC ram you need to bring you internal clock up witch brings up you CPU speed FSB and RAM. but you could put a LITTLE bit more voltage through the ram and squeese some better timings out of it
you wont see any difference in games though

So would tightening the latencies really even be worth it? Or would I better off just buying some faster ram like pc-3500 or pc-3700?

ya new ram would be better but plan out your OCing to see how high you want to go so you know what ram to get

Anyone want some RAM? I'll gladly trade it for some low latency pc-4000!

For now I have stock heatsinks on my cpu and 6800gt. As for case fans, I have a 120mm front fan(intake), 80mm side panel fan(intake), and a 120mm rear exhaust fan. also, there is a 120mm fan on the PSU. Maybe for my birthday I can get some nice heatsinks and/or better ram.

I had some Kingston ValueRam pc2700 (166mhz stock) that would run @ 220mhz at 2.5/3/3/6 timings w/2.8v. They ran like that for over a year with no problems. I would see what your current ram can do before counting them out because sometimes you can get some good stuff without knowing. If you aren't going to go for an extreme overclock, they might run just fine for you.
However if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket and want to buy some new high quality, high speed ram, here is an article about some of the low latency pc3200 and other sticks available today wit the samsung TCCD chips on them. And don't count them out just because they are pc3200 (stock 200mhz speed), some of them can run up to 250-270ish mhz speeds.

I'm with Iridium on this one, try and see how far you can push your current RAM before buying new sticks.....

OK, I tried a bit of latency lowering without increasing voltage and I found that this ram can do 2.5-3-3-6 with ease. However, upon trying 2-3-3-6, the system just would NOT boot until I cleared the CMOS. Maybe in a few days, when I grow more balls, I'll try increasing voltage.
