oc-ing my 8500LE

i figured since this forum has a lot of radeon 8500/LE fans, i could ask here. When i have my video card overclocked to even 275/275, GTA3 makes these little spickes as it plays, and when i OC my core to 300 MHz, my comp just freezes, so can anyone tell me what i should do and what might be the cause?

Spikes?

Spikes are usually your GPU running either too high or too hot, texture flashes are more indicative of the memory being the problem. Try clocking back your core a bit, if that clears it up then look into getting some better cooling on the GPU. (The stock cooler/fans SUCK, plus they're mounted badly. )

If you meant speckles, which I don't know if you did, such as "snow" and white dots on your screen...that's also memory related, which means...clock it down! Once you see "snow" it's time to turn back the clock a bit until you don't. Otherwise, ram is pretty robust stuff.

While we're here

Is this memory behaviour also temp related - meaning have you ever got read of 'speckles' by adding RAM sinks?

Yeah, that's why I did the whole penny-thing to my 8500. She could run with her memory high, but I got speckling...after adding the ram sinks I could run her at the same speeds but with no speckles.

Yes, well, I got funny stuff on my screen in some games w/out any oc, but then it's a cheap board and all. Wondered if it's worth the try - can't find RAM sinks either. But I can always try with some staniol

The board is clocked 162 with 6ns mem chips (should be just fine).

Anyway, hope to grab a 9500 sometime soon...

Holy shit, your core must be REALLY having trouble then. At 280 core frequency I start getting really bad warping and blank (untextured) polygons...get a better cooler man! Sweet bejeebus!
