exclamation GeForce4 TI4600 - Settings help

Hey guys, I have a geforce4 ti4600 and I'd like to know what are the best settings for it? What should I set antistropic and antialiasing to? Also, how would I overclock this card if I wanted to.. (people are telling my I shouldn't). But I would like to know how anyway.. thanks guys.

Also, I have this program that came with card, called EXPERTool, I can mess with the bios of the card through this program I guess.. I cant set my Core Clock setting and my Memory Clock setting through this, should I change it ? I also need to update my bios, how the hell do I do this.. its so hard, a lot of questions I know.. im sorry but I need the help badly!

The Expert Tool can be used to Overclock your card but may I recommend Riva Tuner which can be found @ Guru 3D website.

You card should handle 4XAA and 8X Anisotropic or Quincunx AA setting no problem though you will take a performance hit.

If you do decide to overclock your card make sure you have good cooling and take it in small steps only a couple MHz at a time.

ya

Thanks a lot man... but now I have another problem... my Wolfenstein game freezes everytime in the middle of a game and my monitor shuts off by itself! The error report told me that my drivers are the problem.. but I installed brand new 40.09 nvidia drivers, and I always uninstall the old drivers and delete the directory before installing new ones, but then I restart, and I go to install the drivers and 40.09 drivers tell me that it found old drivers on my comp and that I should uninstall them, but I just uninstalled them and deleted the nvidia directory before I restarted!*!* WTF?? This keeps happening, is there any way to turn off plug and play software installation so the drivers for the card dont install when I boot up my comp, god nvidia is so gay... Thanks

Uhm...

...when you say "I deleted the entire nVidia directory", just what are you talking about? Could you explain how you go about un-installing your drivers? I think that's where the problem is.

eh

Nah, I uninstall from Add/Remove programs, restart then delete the "NVIDIA" directory in C:\NVIDIA, this folder is where the new drivers extracted the files needed for install.. this is nothing, but please help me.. this is costing my system performance a LOT, everything is running soooo slow, and I just reformatted 4 days ago too!

Ok, try this. After you un-install from add/remove, reboot into safe-mode. In safemode, do a search of your C:\WindowsXP\ directory for "nv*.*" and delete them all. (I'm betting there will be 'tween 119 and 121. ) Don't bother deleting the C:\nVidia directory, just make sure you know where the drivers you want to install are for when you re-boot...'cause XP ain't gonna be able to find any drivers on your system and is gonna ask you to tell it where to look for them after you re-boot out of safe mode and back into XP proper.

See if that doesn't help a bit.

thankya

I tried that but same shit.. it told me to uninstall old drivers before installing drivers, but I dont think that's the problem now.. I think the problem is the new 40.09 drivers are not digitally signed... in the middle of the driver installation it tells me that the drivers are not digitally signed, but I click continue anyway.. wierd huh? They should be signed.. fucking ghey nvidia.

3dmark

Check your settings. Make sure that AA is off and Anisotropic is off. If these are set to 4xAA and 8xAniso that's probably why you have such a low score.

Ok for the problem of windows finding the old drivers do this.

: go to your windows directory and find a Folder called "inf"(enable "show hidden files" in folder options to see it).

Inside the INF folder look for OEM files.

You can read these files by double clicking and they will open in a notepad format for you to read.

In the these inf files you should come across one that refers to the nVidia drivers.
Well delete this sucker and go to add/remove and uninstall the drivers.
Now after restarting windows wont have setup info and will ask you to direct it to drivers.

Hope it works for you....good luck

Well

Guess what happened now, I just took the software bundle I got with my vid card and I installed the VGA drivers from that cd and there are no problems, I looked if it's compliant and it says that it is compliant with WinXP, but when I installed the 40.09 drivers it said that it wasnt compliant. Yeah I did the test on default when I had the 40.09 drivers installed and I got a friggin 4205, my friends geforce2 gets better scores than me =/

I'm gonna go do the test with these drivers installed right now, oh yeah.. these drivers are 2.9.8.0 -- OLD as FUCK. I did that INF thing, there's like 19 OEM files and some of them have File=NV4_DISPLAY.something -- something like that ?

I just did 3dmark test on default, I was getting great FPS, mostly around 70 and sometimes 110, but everytime I tried it froze in the middle off a test, and I would have to manually shut off computer by button, and do the test over.. I did that three times then I finally gave up... lol, when is nvidia gonna release normal drivers that are fcking compatible.

It's my opinion that you should go for the highest resolution that 4x antialiasing and 16x anisotropic filtering will run at over 50fps on, and then you will have hit your sweet spot. You might want to reduce the ansiotropic if its slowing you down a lot, because having a resolution at least 1280x1024 is necesary with a wonderful card like that (looks dolefully at his GF2mx)..

Well, of course, you need a good monitor to match the resolution and the video card. I have the most wonderful (p991) FD Trinitrin, 19" monitor - text at 1600x1200 is almost as clear with Cleartype enabled as normal professionally printed text (mags, newspapers, etc.) and I have no problems reading it. I will never understand the fools who use an old, half-broken, 15" CRT with their computer yet spend hundreds or thousands on an uber-rig that can do 15000 3dmarks - they are never going to actually see the graphix their box is going to be putting out unless they upgrade their monitor. My friend, who has a GF4, sez that the graphix on my computer are better than his (I have a GF2MX), because I have this wonderful, brilliant, vibrant monitor, while he has a second-hand mac monitor with a misaligned shadow mask, even though his computer pulls almost 4x the 3d marks mine does. Its the end result that you see that matters - most definitely not the result that the computer puts out.

LOL, CS doesn't support 1280x1024, but RTCW does, and then CS supports 1280x960 but RTCW doesn't.. what tha phuck.

I understand what your saying man.. I have a pretty good monitor, 19" GeM.. suits me just fine, now the problem is with the games supporting the resolution... hell no I'm not going 1600x1200, I'll go blind...

I just use the normal fonts. I'm mildly nearsighted, and with my corrective lenses (right now, soft contacts), I have 20/13 vision, so reading text has never been a problem for me, since the text will be readable to me if it can be read with a magnifying glass. I just leave the fonts on normal, but it is an absolute must to turn on "Cleartype" for your fonts (its somewhere in the settings for the desktop methinks, I'll look around and find it if you want me to), try that and you will see a near infinite increase in clarity and smoothness of text (think of it as anti-aliasing for text)...

Hmmm. if it's still difficult to read fonts with that on, then it's hard for me to say exactly what more there is to do to make the text more readable except lower the resolution or make the text bigger. Maybe move up to 96dpi, or if you are already there, 112?
