Hello out there i am new to the computing world but am learning quite fast i have finished building my pc a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with it i have managed to overclock my graphics card but now i want to overclock my cpu so please help if you can i really dont know about overclocking the cpu at all.....

these are my pc specs

coolermaster centurian case with 2x 120mm fans
amd athlon 64 3000+ venice cpu with akasa evo 33 heatsink and fan
2 x 512mb ddr 400 pc3200
abit av8 motherboard
sapphire 9600 atlantis 256mb with iceberq 4 heatsink and fan

the sytsem runs at 30degrees idle and 40degrees under load

please help because i have heard you can get a good overclock out of this cpu!

thanks had a quick look seems a bit complicated but i will have a better look and see if i can make some sense of it and hopefully i will soon be overclocking do you know what a safe overclock for my system would be?

anybody else know of any really good beginners guides to overclocking or has anybody else got a set up like mine with a good overclock would be nice to hear from you to see what kind of figures you have acheived.

hey, I've been looking at that thread and just experimenting myself. I currently only have stock cooling but am looking at possibly getting some better cooling for my cpu and vga cards. I just upped my cpu this morning to 2451ghz. at basically stock temps... well my motherboard reading is a little hotter but that's probably because the chipset cooler on my mobo was faulty (only problem w/ Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe) so I replaced it with passive cooling.
I'm not sure how high you should be able to get your cpu but from what I hear the 3200+ like mine can get up to about 2.7 I don't think I'll take mine that high, but I'll be happy if I can get 2.5 or 2.6 once I get better cooling.
