It has to be formatted in UBB/vB code. Basically just make the guide into one huge post

Nice!

It's certainly not as ugly as my solution, but why does everyone insist on using them traditional little fans?!? Nice job Madgoat!

I hope you can accept some constructive critisism.

Basicly its an Good Idea for the mild seasons of the year .

But running it in Winter or mid-summer aint gonna go so good.

Winter usage will introduce alot of damp air into your case..........i dont think it will be so good for your rig.
Second im sure its not going to be so good for you in cold days to have the window open...brrrrr.

In summer its common knowledge that in the shade the temp is
lower.
Basicly that means that the inside temps of your home/office are lower so bringing in air from outside will have a reverse effect.

So basicly a Cooling Mod like that has to carefully used.

The best low cost solution that i can think of is basiclly to have a correct intake and good direction of air to components and a strong exhaust to get the warm air out.

One of the best ways to mod ones case for better cooling is
first to install a fan at the TOP of the case (a 120mm) cause as we all know hot air rises.
Second one or two 80mm intake fans at the side panel (here you can attach some PVC piping to direct air to a) the vidcard and b) next to the cpu(not directly at it).

Another way to make it even better is to attach some kind of piping to the CPU HS/fan and direct the hot air out of your case that way your keeping your overall case temps down.
I did this once and i bent the pipe towards the back of the case where i attached it to a smaller 60mm fan that also pulled outwards.

Ok enough of that....

And BTW the constuction of your MOD was very neat .
Good work !

Yeah, I thought about the season prob...

but... I have done some tests with just using regular "room" air.

i still get some good cooling when I place the intake fan on the floor behind my desk.... It seems to make it cool enough for some 80' temps...

And yes!! I love the input on this... Im trying to figure out a way now to "create" my own cool air for this idea. (for use when it turns into summer)

I live in Tucson... so In the summer it aint gonna be so good to give my comp 105 degree AIR! haha...

the fact is, with this system ... you need to have GREAT exhaust in the case... negitive is the goal...

with back pressure the air doesnt want to come "in" through this intake, but rather wants to escape.....

Thanks GreekRage.

Greek.......winter air in not damp....it is dry.... Why is there a lot of static and why do you get shocked in the winter...cuz it is dry. Why does long hair become staticy and stand on end....cuz it is dry.

I see that you still have that white sticker on the back side of your card that says not to remove or warranty is void. I still haven't ripped that little bitch off either.

Brings up a question I've always had - do fans that work off of AC power (120v wall current) throw off a lot of EMI? Like, if you held one next to an unshielded TV, would it change colors? That sort of thing. EMI is rather unhealthy for computers and hard drives and monitors, but I've always wanted one of those 120v 500cfm 16cm fans sumliminalpr0nmessage

not that I've seen

The fan that i used for this project didnt do anything to me monitor or effect the board.... I dont think the fan would have much more EMI than your Power unit its self... after all, its just a ball bearing fan too...
