Overclocking Atlantis Radeon 9000

Every time I overclock the Radeon 9000 Atlantis, even the smallest amount, my computer crashes. I tried running the DDR only 6 Mhz higher, and five minutes later my computer rebooted. Is this normal, or am I just not doing something right? Are their jumper settings or card mods that I need to do first. Also, are OEM cards generall lower quality than retail, or is this just a myth?

OEMS=lower quality

ALWAYS! Don't feel bad, I had to learn it the hard way too. 32MB radeon DDR OEM, wouldn't overclock worth beans until I modded the card. ("modded the card"=changing the heatsin/fan on the GPU, adding heatsinks to the memory, increasing me cases air-flow, etc), then it gave me 183/183 up from it's 168/168 default. (Not really that good, but up to the retail versions speed.) Does your case have good air-flow? Have you modded the card at all?

Don, I was under the impression that you had to hack the bios on the non-9700-pro cards to get any overclocking... look around, I think there was a related thread around in this forum, if you can't find it ill research this and get back to you...

Dig, I cant agree with you... I have a Radeon 32DDR "LE" ... I have it clocked through the BIOS at 203/203 ... at 207/207 I have problems so I backed it down a notch.

Not all of the OEM cards are bad...

All I did was stick a fan on the standard heat sink (that came with no fan)
