"Build The Dream Rig"
If you had £1500 (about $2000 USD) what would tour dream rig be.........
Parameters: It must be upgradeable, as fast and as possible, great for games, outstanding for OC, have multi-task CPU, look great and within the budget. So listed below are the hardware needed, state you preferences; 1. Case and PSU. 2. Mobo. 3. CPU and HSF. 4. RAM. 5. GFX card. 6. Hard drive. 7. DVDRW. 8. DVDRom. 9. Monitor. As you can probably guess Xmas has come early for me.............

Pentium M?! That's uber **** for multi-tasking. I think a AMD board with a X2 would be better

I'd personnal stretch it out a bit more for dual-core though if your budget allows it. I'd bundle it with a Thermalright XP-120 for a silent and cool solution.

Its all planned : ), you don't have to worry.
I have already planned my next upgrade based on the current prices and when in fact I will beed the upgrade. I feel there is no need to stretch (as I don't want to use photoshop when I'm dead in a CS:S match). I will name my system, then have a Rev. 2 edition of it when I need it. Rev.2 should include Minimum 500 quality PSU + 1 7800 GTX (same model) SLI AMD 64 x2 4400 2 gb ram (probably won't be needed but the option will be there) + 1 DVD burner driver (may be dual layer) + 1 HD (probably the same one) Also room to grow as new cooling technology comes and goes. I figure this comp should last me (with Rev.2) at least 5-7 years with various tools for hardware, software and cooling (may add water cooling). So I'm good, If I really think I could build a better ATI AMD system then I will sell this rig (as long as I get a good 500 within the ammount to build the ATI rig). So I'd say this is pretty future proof, and quiet a step up from my current build. |

I'm thinking about the Intel Pentium 4 650 "LGA775 Prescott" 3.4GHz (800FSB) with HT, and I like the, HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X850 XT TURBO 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) This is the RAM I'm looking at, OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2. But I'm undecided about the Mobo...............I would like it to be top spec's and very OC-able. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
![]() PS............None of the above are set in stone, so can you suggest better :0

no idea to be honest, probably 2-2.5k without a screen. temperatures are good too, 40-50c on the 7800 overclocked and around 45-55c on the P4. Its also really quiet as well, its a great little system, my personal favourite.

TCCD chips is the best OCing chips available today. they are the replacement of the BH-5/6 chips that were out a few years ago. If you can find some BH-5/6 ram, get that over the TCCD, though i highly doubt you will find any of that. you can try eBay though and might get lucky. BH-5/6 chips were able to do DDR500 running 2-2-2-5 timings at a crazy 3.5v.
TCCD chips are basically the replacement of the legendary BH-5/6 chips. TCCD chips can OC just as high as BH-5/6, but because they do not use nearly as much voltage as the BH-5/6 modules, you can't run nearly as tight timings into the RAM modules. For example, my memory is Corsair XMS XL rated at DDR400, but can do DDR500 without problems with timings of 2.5-3-3-7 running 2.8v into the memory. At that point, i am CPU limited and my system is unstable. I've had my memory do DDR533, but like i said, my rig was CPU limited at that point. |
